I'll have to disagree on this one.
If you ever worked in large scale corporate, you'd see this daily with all sort of reasons. I.e. killing your competition, acquisitions due to improving your existing systems, wrong investment (which looked good on the start but after a while it became liable).
To name a few.

So yes you definitely buy something only to destroy it.

That being said, I hope this isn't the case
