If you're playing 1-3-1, your PF also needs to play some outside defense, so it's important he's good at that. Diagrams of the defenses are below. Disregard the periods - they're there so you can see where the players are positioned on the court.

1-3-1is ok but 2-3 seems weird. I dont know, maybe in NBA zone is played differently, but I know 2-3 like this (the basket is on the top of the diagram)

i believe before 3 days you are right, today i think the PF would get more matchup on outside shots where he needs the OD.
