I was wondering if there has been a change in the way the attitude affects games with the new engine.
I can hardly explain this game otherwise: (13354468)

I was expecting an easy win even if I TIE'd this game, just like I'd done several other times this season, but this time we were even trailing by 20 in the final quarter!

Now, I can live with an odd loss (although this was particularly painful as it was a televised game and I had just started an arena expansion... doh!), but if I can't win a game like this, well, I'm afraid I'll never bother TIEing again a game this season... better have homecourt advantage in the playoffs rather than play with a higher enthusiasm, imho.

Really, any help would be appreciated. Maybe now it's advised to TIE only when playing home? Or, the new engine is simply more unpredictable?

No, there hasn't been.

to confuse you totally:, sure it had been changed:

3. We have changed the way in which the home court advantage and enthusiasm effects scale across talent levels. For highly skilled teams these effects will be reduced, for middle of the road teams this effect will be relatively unchanged, and there will be a small bump in home court advantage for weaker teams. In effect, we hope to return home court advantage to a state in which each division will have approximately the same home team winning percentage.

I believe the engine is a bit more unpredictable. You clearly had the advantage and should have won that game handily.

However, even the worst teams can beat the best teams on occasion. I would say that your game was a statistical oddity. There are bound to be plenty of examples of statistical improbabilities occurring with this many users. People just call into question the new game engine because it is new, instead of posting in the "how did I lose this" thread. [On a side note, are "new engine sucks" threads the new "how did I lose" threads?]

If that game was replayed 100 more times, you would win 98 of the 100.

Well, thank you all for your answers.

TBH, I've followed the "how did I lose that" thread in the past, and I've always felt there was some kind of explanation for all the games I've seen, even the oddest. But this tiime, I find it hard to explain a loss versus a team that is in clear disadvantage in *all* ratings. Furthermore, I don't agree with GCCSteel: I've watched this game and I bet I would lose it 100 times out of 100!
There must be something to do with the new GE, and that's why I posted here.

CrazyEye has a point, maybe I got a huge hit from my TIE and my opponent got a huge boost from his home court advantage. Whatever the reason, I think it's much less sensible now to TIE an easy game because:
1) the outcome may be unpredictable
2) from CrazyEye's quote, the effect of a higer enthusiasm may be reduced compared to the past

I hope to see some feedback from other people in the future on this matter, it looks like we'll all have to revise some of our strategies.

First, even though mediocre might be different color than inept, but it's still ~1 level difference. Not to mention that team ratings are not necessarily always the be all end all of BB games.

Second, the home team plays with more effort. This compensates what's probably slightly weaker player skills (as team ratings suggest).

Third, home-court advantage incorporated in the ratings, so there is nothing beyond what you see. So does enthusiasm.

edited to fix the fact that I am an idiot

Just because you watched it means nothing. You could watch it 1 million times, but you are watching only 1 random occurrence. Sure they won handily, but I am suggesting it is a statistically unfortunate event. You had the upper hand, yet they still won.

Imagine it this way: Out of 100 Games

50 Games you win by 20+
25 games you win by 10+
15 games you win by 1+
6 games they win by 1+
3 games they win by 10+
1 game they win by 20+

It is a bell curve with the advantage heavily on your side. Just because the game you watched happened to fall in the 1 possible chance out of 100, doesn't mean the new engine is rigged.

I have played 2 straight games in the new engine on TIE, both away, and won them easily.

Disclaimer: This is just an idea, I am not saying this is definitely the reason you lost.

Q: Hear about the Aggie who lost $50 on the football game?
A: He lost $25 on the game and $25 on the instant replay!

(I couldn't resist a little Aggie joke here...)

Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!

5 more 3 pt made
4 more ft made

i guess the rating system is differen't than the scoring system

ie
3pt and long 2pt is rated the same in rating but there is 1pt scoring diff
a foul +1 is rated the same as a basket made
