I'm wondering if people think its better to have good depth at each position or a few stars with average bench?

Depth. If one of your players gets injured, you need to be able to adapt so you can be successful.

I think good depth is better. A deep team is much more flexible, making it easier to manage gameshape, tailor your lineups, and weather injuries.

Not likely. And if it does, it is very small "reward".
We'll have to wait until new merchandising in S10. There we'll be able to correctly evaluate the financial issues related to Stars.
