Is here a defensive tactic that is best against motion? Thanks.

I'd say 2-3 zone.

He will mis his 3 point shots and you will pick all rebounds.

No, 2-3 Zone is not really the most effective defense against an outside-focused team in most circumstances.

1-3-1 is a very extreme defense, and I wouldn't use it.

If I was at least 95% certain the opponent was going to play Motion (or another outside-focused offense), I'd play 3-2 Zone.

At this point of the game it is imo. No shooters are good enough to hit enough 3-pointers to win a game. I haven't seen one team who really succeeded in playing motion. Check for example this match, between two of the best national teams around: (610)

Even they did hit only 13 out of 43 attemps. I agree with you that a 1-3-1 or a 3-2 zone is needed in a few seasons when shooters are good enough to make a difference, but since all players are that bad right now, you'd better focus on picking all those rebounds from their missed shots. They even miss a lot of open 3 point shots right now.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd always recommend 3-2 Zone if the opponent is almost certainly going to play an outside focus.

But why?

Of course it's logic to play a 3-2 zone because that will rise your perimeter defense, but I think that isn't even needed at this point in the game.

If the opponent hit about 20-30% of their open 3FG shots there is no need to cover that even more imo. You'd better make sure you pick up all those rebounds of all those missed shots. Let them shoot and miss, not my problem if I'll pick up those rebounds.

The opponent of the topic starter made 3 out of 24 3-point shots last game, while he had mediocre(low) outside shooting vs awful(high) perimeter defense (with playing motion.) Not really needed to cover his outside shots then...

To be fair, that IS an all-star game, and isn't representative of a normal league game.

However, it's just simply incorrect to advise someone to use a defense that weakens outside defense to defend outside shots.

Na it won't, in a few seasons the players will be skilled enough that they will hit a lot of those outside shots, so you really need to play a 3-2 zone then, or even a 1-3-1.

But at this point in game I really think 2-3 zone is a better tactic vs a outside based offense than 3-2 zone, just because the low hit percentages of 3fg shots.
If you pick the most rebounds your opponent can only shoot once every attack, since they miss 70% of their shots, they can't make 120 points then.
