I am a first time drafter and I have a question, should i rank the players by their star ratings or by their boxscore? ]

Star rating and potential are most important. Age also plays an important role. Boxscore in my opinion is only something to use if you got no other way to separate two players. As far as I know it only explains what strength and weaknesses the player got. And if it has a low star rating the strong parts might still be pretty low skills.

I believe that stars are related to salary to a high extent and salary are a better indicator of a useful player than the box score. If you got potential that is a very important part to use to edit draft order.

I would consider a good draft to have 4 or 5 star rating and at least 3 in potential. I would players like this:
1) 5 star rating 5 star potential
2) 5 star rating 4 star potential
3) 4 star rating 5 star potential
4) 5 star rating 3 star potential
5) 4 star rating 4 star potential
6) 5 star rating, no information about potential
7) 4 star rating, 3 star potential
8) 4 star rating, no information about potential

Age of 19 will almost leave them at bottom of this list as that will make the players possibility to be really good tougher.

Box score is next thing to check if players are really close in star rating, potential and age after weighting those factors. Position also important as you benefit from finding a player you can train.

If you have no way of deciding(same age, star rating, and potential), # of fouls is also important to compare.
