What a surprise this morning (NT games are played at 6 am in my part of the world) when I saw that we upset Iran in the final Asian tournament game of the year for us!
They were ranked #12 in the world, and we had an amazing comeback. Down by 15 in the 4th quarter, New Zealand stormed back to outscore Iran 38-11 in the 4th to win by 12!
This means we end the 2nd round at 2-3, although our points scored are almost even with points allowed. We ended in 4th place in our group, which kills me even more that we lost a heartbreaker to Singapore by 3, and lost to Malaysia, who had Home Court Advantage for the entire tournament. We were so close to finishing 3rd and advancing to the Second Chance Qualifiers, it hurts.
We now look forward to the Consolation tournament. It might not seem like much, but the Asian team that goes the farthest in the tournament receives Home Court Advantage for the next Asian tournament, and we actually have a decent chance to do that I think.
