Zone defense means that u r guarding space, not a player.
Exactly, that's the definition of zone defense ;)
So from my poor knowledge, of the real basketball zone D's is more likely to double a player, and u r making much harder to get a clean shot. Funny thing is that the best way to brake a zone is to take the defensive rebound and then run, just to not give enough time to built the zone. On this game we are using the 3-2 zone to stop the running teams
Well, to be more accurate one of the main advantages of zone defense isn't the possibility to double team, but the fact that you can help more efficiently a defender that has been beaten by his man in addition to the ability to better close out driving and passing lanes... anyway it's not that different to what you said.
But a counterattack isn't the best way to beat a ZONE defense.. it's the best way to beat ANY kind of defense :P
Said that, you can't always manage to successfully breakaway and a 3-2 or a 1-3-1 defense (if it's not attacked correctly) does usually force the opponent to take bad long range shots, but every zone defense has its weaknesses: a 1-3-1 defense for example is extremely weak in the corners or a 2-3 defense can easily be beaten in the high post...
And you can't forget that zone defense are usually more efficient in the first minutes of usage, with time passing the opponent usually finds way to crack it.
But all this are things too difficult to implement in a game engine where the human CAN'T interact during the game.. you must find a compromise between reality and playability.. i think BB chose a good one ;)
