Yay,

To start the forum day.

Is it possible to clarify something about the seemingly huge importance of Outside Defense in the new engine? Most game are won by the team with the higher OD. It even seems 3-2 zone is the best tactic vs a look inside.

Might this also be the reason that my guards take a huge number of shots while I'm playing look inside and my inside men are dominating his inside man?

A few examples

(15672117) This might also be an enthusiasm problem, but I just can't understand the huge amount of shots taken by my SG and PG, since I'm clearly dominating the inside. My SG/PG wasted the game there, missing 35 shots.
(15672124). Again, why do my guards take that many shots?

I think the new GE made changes that most teams haven't made the appropriate adjustements to. I think the problem really is with handling and passing than with OD. Those ratings used to not have a very large effect, and now we have increased the importance of how the handling/passing of a team balances against the defensive pressure being applied. Teams that put out a very stiff outside defense will pressure the guards, and if the guards don't have the ball handling and passing skills to navigate around this pressure more turnovers will result.

In addition, if OD is too low, its going to give guards and easier time finding passing lanes, resulting in more assists etc. And we turned up the size of this tradeoff. So I think teams have focused more on OD, and have defensive options which modify this rating, but really its changes in both handling/passing and outside defense which have altered team dynamics.

I don't know if everyone feels that its too dominant an effect, but our feeling is that handling/passing rates will rise over time and some of what you are talking about will go down over time.

Then, handling/passing training will be very hot in the future....while, how about the inside team and inside players? Same with the outside players? Thanks.

Thnx!

So would it be an option to compare my offensive flow ratings vs the outside defense of the opponent to analyse game results? Just like inside scoring vs inside defense en outside scoring vs outside defense?

Also I conclude from your answer that when an outside team plays an inside team, it will be way harder to win when your the inside team?
The outside team can try to focus their defense at the guards of the inside team, so that the guards can't get the ball to the inside men, while the inside team probably can't match the guards of the opponent team. At least, that's what seems to happen in my games, where my guards take too many terrible shots.

your team has to be balanced to win, similarly if you have an purely outside team you are going to get destroyed on the boards and get crushed that way.

its true we didn't retune the game rating formula when we returned the engine, this was in part to keep some continuity in what the GE means... also though its harder to quantify how much of a contribution a particular player's handling ability added to the game, even when it clearly did.

we have discussed retuning some of the team ratings to better reflect the changes to the GE, so i suppose the game ratings could also be considered, though in thinking about handling in particular i'm not sure how to add it, in a way consistent with the way we add in other components.

I have the feeling, that the position 4 and 5 have been touched a lot by these changes: many turnovers because of low handling/passing. Is that correct?
