what's the benefit of joining a private league, do you get to play more games and make more money?

no,
being a supporter is not gonna give you any advantage over non-supporter teams

private leages simply alows you to play with your friends, have more games withouts any influence on minutes/injuries etc.
it also alows you check how your team deals with different tactics and starters, which is hard to do in a scrimmage due to starters minutes distribution
