I am still trying to get my head around playing with the enthusiasm levels.

I haven't been altering my enthusiasm so far this season but I am considering it for my Tuesday game. I am playing the team that has the best record in the league (away) and really do not rate my chances of getting a result. Is it worth my TIEing the game? Will it really make much of a difference in my following league game?

At this point my hope for the season is simply not getting relegated so I am not keen to TIE games against opponents I am more confident of beating as I really do need those results going my way.

What are people's thoughts on where and when to TIE games...or alternatively where and when to CT games?

I would TIE against teams that are a lot stronger then u, play normal against teams u could beat. Only use crunch when its a game against a team also fighting relagation or for a finals spot and u think it will be a close game. But preferably don't use crunch. Just looking at your league it looks like your in the mix for the finals so i would play normal most of the time.

Along similar lines:

What would you say to someone like myself who is in a Level V league with only one more human player?

What I have been doing is going TIE on the league bots, except if it is a TV game when I go normal and I went CT
in my last two Cup games when going up against teams from a higher level, winning one and losing the second.

Well if your always winning point differential isn't a factor because u will finish near the top anyway. If u can beat bots TIE u might as well do it then u can just cruch the game against the human opponent.

I would just like to say that I disagree with a strategy that says "play normal most of the time". If you are really competing in your series, you should actually be playing TIE most of the time (somewhere between 50-70%).

Enthusiasm can make a big difference between winning and losing. Even a weaker team, who spends most of the season keeping their enthusiasm up, could potentially beat you if you are playing normal all the time.

I would aim to keep your enthusiasm around 9-10 at game time. When you have a home game against a weak team, you should almost always be playing TIE. Same goes for an away game against a better team.

I guess until u are experienced its not always easy knowing how weak a team has to be before u can win playing TIE against them so people eye on the side of caution. TIE against stronger teams is probably a bit easier to determine. Makes it harder if there are a lot of even teams in your conference too. I see your point though

Well, it is just my opinion. I think that having an enthusiasm strategy is at least a start. I see some teams with good talent but it becomes less useful because they cannot put together a good enthusiasm strategy.

I think that the general rule that I outlined above is a good place to start, though. I would always think twice before playing normal or crunch on the road.

I agree but you kind of forget about impact of losing a road game (prior to the next one at home) on game receipts. It is better to throw a home game rather than a road one if you have to and have a choice.

to all: Usually TIEing all the time is useful strategy and it depends on how other teams in your league managing it (and how trustworthy they are) to say how much success you can do with it in your case.

The impact on gate receipts is a marginal consideration in my opinion. First, the BBs have already said that losing at home impacts the fan survey more than losing on the road. Also, "last game" is only one element in the fan survey.

In addition, if a team is better than you, it is very difficult to beat them on the road unless you have some element of surprise (ie: they don't consider you a threat so they play their B-team and/or play TIE). Upsets on the road are more difficult to achieve than upsets at home.

However, I won't disagree that there is a time and a place to normal or crunch an away game.

So how long can you expect to have with an increased enthusiasm (before it returns to 5) if you only TIE the one game? Or do you really need to TIE more than one game to have an worthwhile effect from it?

I´ve been playing TIE during the whole season and it has been better than last season when i played normal. If you want a significant growth of you enthusiasm you have to play TIE several matches, it isn´t easy but at the end it seems that players get used to play TIE and they play better.
