Better defense against Push The Ball....1-3-1, 2-3, or 3-2? I know it depends on the other teams strengths and your defensive strenghts and weaknesses but in general what would your guys opinions be? Thanks

If your opponent plays with 2 guards with limited shooting capacity but great playmaker abilities (pass/hand/drv) and strong inside players (SF/PF/C) they will take many inside shots, in this case 2-3 might help you to stop them and colect rebounds.

if they are outside oriented team, 3-2 or 1-3-1, 3-2 with help a bit more in defensive rebounds.
If his offensive flow is poor we may try also 3-2 to put pressure on their guards and force turnovers

As usual there's no general rule. Depends on your strenght and weakness and your opponent st/weak

I would suggest a 2-3 zone I allows for your big men to grab the rebound to pass it of to the PG and it lowers the chance of them getting some ofencive boards

My thinking is that for those teams using Push the ball, they always have balance Inside and Outside shoot abilities...so Man to Man is a good option in general...
Correct me if i am wrong...

Well as mentioned previously it depends on the players involved but man or man would be ok. It depends on your own team too if u have weak outside defense u may choose to play a 3-2 zone so your own teams defense is more 'even'.

Good thinking....so when would a team use the 1-3-1 in this game? I have yet to figure that out.

I'd play 1-3-1 if the team i'm facing plays run & gun or motion and i have great rebounding center with very good ID. Also the rest of my players should have decent rebounding.

Just my 2cents. Appreciate if the veteran GMs can correct me or add.

Thanks

I agree, if your a lot stronger inside then your opponent and your opponent is an outside team it can be good.

Good thinking....so when would a team use the 1-3-1 in this game? I have yet to figure that out.

When desperate.

It was a useful tactic for soma games in the old engine, it diminished in use in the new one significantly I guess.

For the original question; i t depends on the teams but against Push the ball I would use Man to Man or 3-2 Zone. ID of my SF would influence my decision too.

Can you expand a little on how the ID of the SF would determine what you would do? That would be wonderful if you could. Thanks

If your SF is a strong inside defender, then that would make a stronger 2-3 zone. Likewise, a SF with excellent OD makes for a better 3-2. I like SFs with both OD and ID so we can play man to man. Hope this helps...
