For those people who are nearing or are already over the 20,000 mark for their stadium, someone seems to have cracked the code as to how the cap works:

My guess is that you that the attendence is decided from the normal factors... both teams form, sth, league position.. so say thats 20,000... you then start filling the most expensive seats first, then when you get to the bleachers you just get the left-over amount. I guess those that have lower tier/courtside end up with slightly less bleacher figures?

This is based on the fact that many of the top teams now in the playoffs are getting the same attendance game after game. They sell out their high end seats but not their bleachers (if you want a Canadian example, look at Torooo). It only seems to be happening for teams with 20,000+ seats.

So, it seems that the general strategy going forward will be to max out your bleacher seats at somewhere around 13,000, at least if you plan to expand your arena to 20,000 seats (or more).

Actually, just looking around at some of the other arenas in Canada like oeuftete's and harfang's. It seems to me this is more of a general pattern and has nothing to do with stadium size. It is like people show up at the game and want to buy a luxury seat, but they are all sold out, so they buy bleachers instead.

I think that the amount that each fan is willing to spend is set-up on a bell curve with the median being somewhere near the price of a bleacher seat. This is because even a division II club can sell out if they price their bleacher seats well below the price median, whereas clubs with much smaller arenas can fail to sell out when they set their prices well above the price median. As your season ticket holders increase, the bell curve moves up, allowing more people to fill in the bleachers at a higher price (and vice-versa)... when the playoffs start, the bell curve temporarily shifts to the right, which in turn raises the median price that the average fan will pay for playoffs games.

So are you the one giving all the one ball ratings in the Canadian forums? If not, sorry for the diatribe - this is aimed at whoever is doing it:

Seriously, just because you disagree or have a better idea, why give a one ball rating? I start threads to start a discussion, or would you rather go back to the days when no one discussed anything in the Canadian forums? I obviously don't have all the answers and get things wrong sometimes, but at least I'm trying.

Anyhow, last time I discuss the one ball ratings... I'm not really a fan of the system, anyways, since all the best people in BB seem to get the worst ratings (just look at Juicepats).

What you mentioned is an interesting theory. On the other hand, I tend to think it has more to do with season ticket holders. The more you have, the more tickets you sell. The division you are directly affects your ticket holders, thereby impacting your attendance.

I was talking about your 2.5 ball rating. I give you a 5 ball rating every time but it doesn't seem to have an effect.

I'm probably too direct for many people's taste.

I don't think this was at me, but I have gone thru and five balled everyone I can. If I find he post useless I don't rate it...pretty easy I think. This system is very 'junior high' and makes me laugh. The Canadian forums are pretty quite and then when people feel like they are being judged it makes them even less likely to post.

That may be part of it but I don't think it is it 100% - personally I love your directness.

I think my conclusion is, if you are active and make enough posts, eventually you will have a low rating. My rating is only at 3.5 balls right now because in my PL Fed, everyone gives everyone else 5 balls all the time.
