I'm a newbie at this, just started the tail end of last season. How I'm winning games I don't know. But based on some of the posts, there are so many things I'm not doing and I have so many questions, like, do i have too many players.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to make suggestions for me in terms of training, strategy, roster......am I on the right track?

1. Fire/Sell all players under 3k salary.
2. If you still have more than 10-12 players then fire/sell some more players.
3. Decide if you want to train Big Men or Guards.
4. Let's say you decide to train Guards, then have a look at your roster and see if you have some good Big Men that you can use (not train), if you don't have any good Big Men then sell your players that are Big Men and replace them with some older players (like 27+) that are Big Men. They will be cheaper and have good stats.
5. Now that you have some good Big Men, you can focus on trainees. Keep the trainees on your roster that have decent starting stats that are ideal to Guards. I.e. Jump Shot, Jump Range, Driving, Handling, Passing etc.
6. You must decide to either train 3 players using 1 position training, or 6 players using 2 position. Personally I recommend using the 2 position training.
7. So each game you will play your Big Men in the Center, Power Forward and Small Forward spots, and put your Guards in the Guards spot, then pick a training that only trains Shooting Guard and Point Guard.

End Result:
You have 6 Big Men that are older with good stats (not trainees).
You have 6 Guard trainees that you play throughout the week to get 48 min each and hence full training.
Having 12 players allows you to manage your minutes more easily and hence get good gameshape (48 to 72 min).

Goodluck!

I suppose, what I do is I have 6 trainees, and I rank them in order of the best trainee to the worst trainee. Then the first match I train the first 2 trainees, then the next match I train the next 2 trainees, then in my Scrimmage I train the next 2 trainees. That way, if something goes wrong in the first 2 matches (i.e. one of them doesn't get full training) then I can rectify this in the Scrimmage. Training 6 trainees isn't that hard, It's just the same as training 5 trainees but the difference is that on the weeks that the 5 trainees get there 48 minutes, you can also give your 6th trainee 48 minutes.

I agree with the more quality trainees part, but looking at his roster he already has a couple of nice trainees (Like the 19yo Hall of Famer) so I was thinking he might not have to buy as many.

what about rotations....do winning clubs use 10, 8, etc. man rotations....should I manage my rotations to get players between 48-72 minutes a week.......also, are you guys also changing your starting lineups to get more minutes for specific players

You have 3 games a week, that means your trainees (6 of them) will get 48 minutes game time each. Now you also have 6 big men, Have your starters the same for 2 matches, with the same backups for the 2 matches. And then depending on minutes played you can work out what to do for the scrimmage.

I think 10 men are enough, but I keep 12 so that If I run into trouble managing minutes then the last 2 players can take the excess minutes.

It's hard to give advice without knowing the details of your team or what your goals are. If you go to the Canadian forum there is a mentoring thread and you can sign up to have an experienced player who actually knows what s/he's doing provide you with advice.

1. Fire/Sell all players under 3k salary.
2. If you still have more than 10-12 players then fire/sell some more players.

I am not sure about this. In my experience you need around 13 players to properly regulate game shape. (You can probably do it with 12, but 10 makes it really, really difficult)
I know that the 3k cut off is the go to advice on the forums, but I don't think it's particularly good advice for brand new, bottom of the division players. Most likely 2-4 of your players are only going to play in the scrimmage at the end of the week - why bother having guys with $3k-4k salary playing garbage minutes when $1.5k guys can fill in just as well? Money is tight in the bottom divisions and if you can save $5k-10k per week by going cheap with the far end of your bench then you can save up to expand your arena or so something else that's useful.
---------------

Some general thoughts:

In terms of player purchasing and training I would really suggest prioritizing outside defense and inside defense. The more guys with strong+ in those two skills that you have the better you're going to be and the easier it will be to win.

I'd start trying to use TIE whenever possible to build up some higher enthusiasm.

I'd switch up your tactics a bit too, but I think that's not a major priority in the bottom division.

I generally start the best players in both league games (different for my training position) and then the backups usually get back up for two games, starter or backup for a third (depends on how the minutes break down). It's pretty straight forward but gets more difficult to manage when you're in the cup.
