Assuming all else is equal, will a superstar train faster than a star?

Or is it the case they train at the same rate until the star is close to his potential?

Potential does not affect the training speed until the cap plays a role...

We have both said a lot of things that you are going to regret.

So, at what point does my player stop training normally and start training really slow? For instance, if a player has the potential of a starter, does he reach his cap at "proficient" or is that determined by his DMI? Is this explained anywhere (at least somewhere in the forums) or do I simply have to observe his DMI?

This is confusing me what you're saying. Once a player is 20 years old, training slows down. Once he reaches his cap, it will either train really slowly, or just stop. DMI is how well your player trained the past week. If its over his regular, he was trained. Game shape will make this increase too, since he got a good amount of minutes.

Wow, I am so impressed, you managed to get EVERYTHING wrong!!

The soft cap can not be determined by a level in one skill. It is quite close to the system of the salary. If I remember correctly, a potential of starter hits his cap at maybe 15k (this I am not sure about, could be 10 or 20 but anyhow..), and the DMI does not matter whatsoever. You can find the soft cap vs salary tables here in the forums, they are mentioned every now and then, I don't have the time now to search. And training NEVER stops, it just slows down all the time with age, not especially at 20 like one said.

That's not right. Yes, training influences the DMI, but ONLY because the DMI is determined by the player's skills which of course change when he receives training. But the game shape changes the DMI a lot lot lot more than pure training does.

The only occasion you can take the DMI to judge whether a player was trained or not is when his game shape doesn't change at all during the training update. And that doesn't happen too often...

PS: There's a reason why the "M" in DMI stands for "meaningless"

Here's the table with the German descriptions, but the numbers will be the same for every language:

02 Bankwärmer < 5.000
03 Wasserträger < 9.500
04 Reserve 11.500 - 13.000
05 Leistungsträger 21.000 - 24.000
06 Star 33.000 - 40.000
07 All-Star 43.000 - 65.000
08 Überflieger 80.000 - 100.000
09 Super-Star 125.000 - 145.000
10 MVP 195.000 - 230.000
11 Rekordspieler 500.000 +
12 Wunderkind 1.000.000 +
