Hi there. I was going trough the manual and 4 topics earned my attention. The ratings, tactics, offensive focus and pace. imo everything is about balance and inter-relationship between tactic and currend skills of players. That's why my questions are looking at these topics through the skills of players. So I'll go on with the group of Q.

Guide: In this post I will put the quotes from the manual in italic (for better reading).

Group 1: Offensive Ratings
Outside Scoring: Both guards weighted heavily, small forward medium, power forward slightly.
Q1: What does affect OS? (Is it only JR and JS for the PG, SG, SF and PF)
Q2: What skill is of first importance? (What comes second, and third if there is third one?)

Inside Scoring: Center weighted heavily, power forward somewhat heavily, small forward medium.
Q3: What does affect IS? (is it only IS and JS for C, PF and SF?)
Q4: What skill is of first importance? (What comes second, and third if there is third one?)

Offensive Flow (how well the offense produces assists, avoids turnovers): point guard weighted very heavily, shooting guard weighted medium, small forward weighted medium.
Q5: What does affect OF? (is it only PA and HN for PG, SG and SF?)
Q6: What skill is of first importance? (What comes second, and third if there is third one?)

Group 2: Pace
A faster pace means that the team will lower its standards for which shot to take and take less time to get it up the court…resulting in more possessions in the game. Slower pace means just the opposite.
Q7: If I can't match his offence with my defence I should go with slow pace?
Q8: Will slow pace result in losing by a less points than compared if I played normal pace? (ex. 89:75 instead of 100:60)

Group 3: Offensive Tactics
Motion: outside/mid range jump shot focus
Q9: This means most outside shots, fewer mid range shots and less inside shots?
Q10: Mid range shots? Should I consider JR (or just JS) for PF and C when wanting more mid range shots made?
Q11: Is IS of any importance for mid range shots?

Princeton: outside/inside focus (fewer 2 point jump shots)
Q12: This means more outside than inside shots?
Q13: Both C has same level of JS. One have better IS, and the other better JR. More efficient for this tactic will be the one with better JR?

OK, that's all for now. Hope you will read this and give me some answers.

It's likely others who have the same questions... because those are very good questions which I don't think have difinitive answers, but would be great to hear discussions from some of the more experienced managers.

On the contrary. I think that these questions have definitive answers because they have comparative nature (relative value). It's not like I wanted a precise messure. That would be impossible.

Q1-6: Coach parrot has a good model for predicting ratings, and it's and complex ods/excel fuile so you could see the formulas, but don't forget rating ain't everything especially when they are designed for the old engine and the game is a lot about matchups.

Q7/8: pace is mostly a matter of offense, so look forward for making the right choiche there ;) And a different pace won't affect that much the number of possesions, that the "random factor" grow that big to compensate additional missed shot.

I normally go faster, when i am weaker then the opponent defence because else you could get trouble with the clock because you are looking for a too good shot. But in general i prefer medium to slow pace.

Q9: Still a lot midrange ones, and few outside

Q10: JR is still important, but i prefer players with 20 more Jumpshot then Range

Q11: not much, but if you still have power below the basket, this will affect your overall shooting percenatge because the defence is forced to cover this area also - the match engine is pretty complex ;)

Q12: yes more outside then inside one, lot more ;)

Q13: More IS

if you look in the menu there should be a help link, where it is explained but i don't use it that much but i believe it's an tool who give good results especially the rating prediction isn't bad.

All other tools work with formula who follow the developer mind whats important, but Josef analyysed how the engine makes the ratings.
