What exactly does Stamina do?

I think it influences the number of minutes a player can play, but does it also influence the quality of those minutes?

For example, my Atrocious stamina player only plays 30 minutes rather than 42, but is he less effective during those 30 minutes than he would be with Respectable stamina?

While I'm rather a noob at this game, I know stamina affects the quality of those minutes. From what I've noticed we'll say that stamina level 'x' gives you 10 minutes worth of 'quality time'. Once those minutes are reached I know that scoring is harder and turning the ball over is easier. To what extent I don not know, but in my few games I tend to play a good first quarter a passable first half and a livable game until the 4th quarter when it seems I can't stop the opposition and I myself can't match them point for point.

Some questions I'd like answers to are:

When the coach sits a player for a few minutes is any stamina (of that original 10 we'll say) replenished, or does it only stop the 'spending' of stamina since the player is not out there?

Has anyone found a basic rule of thumb for determining what level of stamina is adequate for no or only minor ability loss in the 4th quarter?

To be considered a true starter, what's the base level of stamina you look for?

I think it works like this. The coach considers which player will perform better when deciding whether to make a substitution. A player's performance deteriorates throughout the game, with players with worse stamina tiring quicker. So your starter probably has better skills, but his performance deteriorates and the sub may then be comparable in performance. I don't know whether resting on the bench replenishes skills, or simply stops the deterioration.

When I first started, I did train stamina for a couple of weeks.

Before I trained it, I was getting better balance in playing time. Apparently the starters were tiring quicker.

After I trained it, my starters were getting more playing time. But more importantly I might be fairly even during the 1Q, and then start pulling away in the 2nd Q. So stamina is important in determining substitutions among your players, but it is also important vs. the other team's stamina as far as winning games.
