Hi folks,

I wonder if you think that 6`4" is too small for a good Power Forward?

If you mean is it to small for a power forward that you plan on training then yes I think it is too small. for a power forward I would try and get a player that was 6'7" at the shortest.

If you mean is 6'4" too small for a power forward that you are buying but not training, then it isn't too small as height doesn't play a factor in games.

Thank you for the reply.

He is an eighteen year old I was considering buying for training. Myt instinct was that 6`4" was too small so thanks for confirming that instinct.

Many thanks.

Scipio.

No worries. You could always train him to a small forward if you wanted.

Why doesn't height play a factor in games?

I've seen a few people in my league playing a guy who's best position is PG at their C spot. Are you saying that a 6'0" player can guard a 6'11" player in game and it doesn't matter? That seems silly...

During a match height does not matter at all.
It's only important when you train a player.
Tall players train e.g. Rebounds faster than small guys. Whereas small guys have a bonus when training e.g. outside defense.

If you have two players with the exact same skill-set, one is 5'9", the other one is 7''5", they play equally well.

We have both said a lot of things that you are going to regret.

Yea that's what I assumed was the case. I'm new to this game so I honestly didn't know that this was the case. It certainly would make it more realistic of a game.

But at the same time, I don't begin to act like I understand the inner workings of this game engine or think this is an easy fix. But it could be a good suggestion.

But if they don't have the skills, extremely tall players might still suck.

Manute Bol wasn't very great.

If he has atrocious rebounding, the rebounds that come near him are just likely missed.(Think of a tall unathletic kid in gym class. Half the time the shorter players just had the skill to dominate them.)

The best rebounders aren't tall guys. A lot of good and great rebounders have been under 7'0. Buck Williams, Charles Oakley, Elvin Hayes, Bill Russell, Jerry Lucas, Charles Barkley.

For example, Gheorge Muresan standing at 7'7, during his best rebounding year ever, averaged only 15.6 rebounds per 48 minutes. Dennis Rodman, standing a foot shorter, averaged 22.5 rebounds per 48 minutes in his best rebounding season.

Using the calculation of per 48 is being generous to Muresan, because it doesn't take into factor his horrible stamina that limited him to 11 less minutes per game. It also benefits the guy who plays less minutes, because it is easier to put up number in a small part of the game than playing close to the full game and getting tired. This is why you will see a lot of inflated stats when using PP48.

Using per game stats, or even per 36 minutes, Rodman almost doubles Gheorge.

Another giant, Manute Bol, never bested his rookie mark of 6 rebounds per game.

While 6'5 Elgin Baylor averaged nearly 20 in his best season.

This can also be applied to modern NBA, with Howard, Blair, Millsap(especially Millsap, dude is a monster at his size) being much better rebounders than Nowitsky, Yao, Ilgauskus.

Height is more essential for blocked shots, but in certain cases even that isn't true, because the giants are often clumsy and cannot jump or have poor timing.(Shawn Bradley)

Athletes like Mourning, Howard, even little guys like Wade and not really a little guy but little in terms of this discussion Jordan blocked a lot of shots despite their size.
