First off, hello I'm new (oh no! I can feel the flames coming already) and I apologise if this is in the 'wrong' forum. :S the whole format of the forum's quite confusing for me to navigate. And yes I did read rules and the newbie guide; plus I tried reading a few other threads as well. Can't really find the specific advice / tips on what I am looking for on training : (

[Malaysia]
Yang Liyan (14092537)
Small Forward

Weekly salary: $ 4 926

DMI: 12400
Age: 20
Height: 6'8" / 203 cm
Potential: allstar

He's 20 already.... Was thinking of selling him off rather than trying to train. Can fetch from 90k - 400k according to estimates. I could use that money towards better trainer / trainee (next season) Cos I already have a better SF (but he's 34!)

These are my 3 Trainees:

[Malaysia]
Amrie bin Abd Rahman (14092529)

Age: 19
Height: 6'3" / 190 cm
Potential: star

Jump Shot: respectable Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: respectable Handling: mediocre
Driving: average Passing: average
Inside Shot: mediocre Inside Def.: pitiful
Rebounding: atrocious Shot Blocking: pitiful
Stamina: atrocious Free Throw: mediocre

Experience: atrocious

Horacio Acuña (13328109)
Small Forward

Weekly salary: $ 4 607

DMI: 5600
Age: 18
Height: 6'7" / 201 cm
Potential: star
Game Shape: inept

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: mediocre Handling: average
Driving: mediocre Passing: mediocre
Inside Shot: pitiful Inside Def.: mediocre
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: inept
Stamina: atrocious Free Throw: atrocious

Experience: atrocious

Christodoulos Kasimis (13392391)
Shooting Guard

Weekly salary: $ 3 454

DMI: 5700
Age: 18
Height: 6'2" / 188 cm
Potential: superstar
Game Shape: inept

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: awful Handling: awful
Driving: pitiful Passing: awful
Inside Shot: atrocious Inside Def.: atrocious
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: mediocre
Stamina: respectable ↓ Free Throw: average

Experience: atrocious

My question: Amrie & Acuna could prob be either SG or SF right based on their skills. Is Chris worth training as well? Cos of his potential as Superstar? Still can fetch decent price for resale? It depends on how lucky I am with his pops right?

I was thinking of training the position SG at first for all 3. Starting w/ Jump shot. But kinda wasted cos I don't really have a nice PG to train with them. I guess I could also train Handling or Passing first. Then see if they pop well. Then move either Amrie or Acuna to PG position. then only train Jump shot, which trains both PG & SG from my understanding.

Jus wondering how much the Superstar potential works for Chris. And whether its worth training at all or should I find another trainee.

I would look for someone better then Chris his starting skills are just too low. At a minimum you would want mediocre/average in the main guard skills. Potential doesn't have to be as high when your a new manager around about star potential would allow you to train them to a good level for the lower divisions. Keep in mind that players don't train faster because they have better potential you will just be able to train them longer before training slows. I would try and find another player like Acuna but try and get someone under 190cm as they will train faster in guard skills.

I don't think it is a great idea for new blokes to try and train sfs, they are real tough. Stick to guards.

The first guy Amrie bin Abd Rahman (14092529) is real good, but is 19 and has low potential.

The second is just ok. The second guy has low potential, bad defence, poor height and atrocious stamina and rebounds. For less than $100,000 you could get a better guy but if he was an original team player you may want to keep him because the extra money will be good.

And the third is real bad. Sell him. People pay too much for potential so you may do well.

I see I see.

Thanks for info guys. I didn't know height affected it too. but it makes sense I guess. *face palms*

Edit:

The potential doesn't mean that he'll train faster.... but does that mean that his potential lvl's are higher? As in I can get him to a higher level... but at the same rate as other players? Basically his levels can be trained higher than a say... starter trainee?

Theres a section on page 2 of the FAQ thread that discusses potential that would be worth reading. In fact the FAQ thread will clear up a lot of questions you may have.
