How short of a PF would you be willing to have? I found a good PF I'd like to buy but he's 6'5 and 19yo should I get him?

6'5 will be considered by most as "short" for a PF, if you're planning on training the guy. If he's not going to get training then his height is not important. Depending on his skillset, you might balance his inside and outside training to turn him into a SF

I haven't trained big men so far, only guards, so hopefully someone more experienced can answer that more precisely. I have occasionally seen "short" big men with great skills on the TL, but I have no idea how long those took to train.

I have previously tried to train a 6'5 PF before and it did not work out well at all.

He was 20 at the time and on average he popped significantly slower than another one of my trainees at 6'10 which was also 20. I was doing 2 position training. The 6'5 guy took 3-4 weeks for a pop while the 6'10 guy took 2-3 weeks.

Those weeks adds up over the course of a season or two.

No, you shouldn't if you're only planning an inside training

if hes got average outside skills then you might plan to make him to a SF then go for it. IF not then got for at least a 6'10 guy with good inside skills, dont even worry about outside secondaries unless you playing princeton.

Wow... Not trying to be rude, but that is pretty terrible advice. A PF with decent secondaries is a far better purchase than one without. Especially since his plan is to only train inside skills.

To the OP, if looking for a long term PF trainee I would suggest that you find a player with a nice set of big man skills AND some decent secondaries. OD, Handling and Passing combined with some JS would be ideal imo. Height is a large factor in training speed so taller is better, but great secondaries could make you settle for a bit less height.

without nice secondaries the so called pf's are really just c's.

so ur very much correct in saying terrible advice, especially when the bb's have been telling us for a while now that balanced stats are vital

I train as a big man my SF prospect for 2.5 seasons, and its really painful job. Last season i just got only 2 pop ups. This season i got already 4, but he had high subs.

2 pops!!! OMG I would have given up haha. I am training an 18 year old PF at the moment and I am training him in such a way that I get 1 pop every week. So far it has worked :)
