What exactly is game shape and how does it effect my team and players? Right now some of my better players (mainly two) have an inept game shape. Is this hurting their play? What should I do to fix it?

Please read the FAQ post in this thread as the section of gameshape will answer your questions. Better gameshape drastically increases how well your players play.

inept gameshape is a disaster

they will be playing like a player with half their skills and you would be much better off playing lesser players with better gameshape

like the virus said read the faq

So should I train game shape for this week to get it up and then watch their minutes (since it is Allstar week) or should I sit them out of my scrimmage.

As others have said Gameshape doe effect your players, the lower your game shape the less effective they can be compared to their skill levels. On flip side if it is high then they can get a bit of a bonus.
THey have inept probably because you are playing them too many minutes, the same effect can happen if you play someone too few minutes. The best way to help it is to watch their minutes, although I do not think there is a definitive answer, most assume that you should be between 48 and 75 minutes of play time a week. Do not train Gameshape as it's pretty much a waste of training minutes, since you can do the same thing by watching the minutes.

after looking i think I know which players you are referring to. and you are playing them way too much: over 100 minutes. Is there a reason you have them playing lots of minutes in scrimmages?

I just figured that they were my best players and that they needed to play. I also tried sitting one of my guys but when they subed him in they kept him in for most of the game.

A good way to get your training minutes right is to set your team's lineup for your three game week something like this:
Play your starters as starters your second string as subs and your third string as third string in the toughest league game of the week. Use let coach decide or strictly follow depth chart
In the easier league game of the week set your second string as starters your starters as subs and scrubs as third string. Use strictly follow or depth chart until 4th.
In the scrimmage do not even suit up any player that has more than 60 minutes.

This is not an exact method and needs some tweaking occasionally, but this is how I start off each week's planning and I do a pretty good job keeping my main guys in pretty good game shape.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.
