I had 4 players start for the all-start team in each of the last two years (this year and last), but I my merchandise revenue is still 7k below league average. I realize that other teams have more Americans or National Team players, but this game should realize that all-star selections are merely a popularity contest and if a fan is going to vote for a player on the all star ballot, they like the player and are more likely to buy the jersey of the person whom they voted for rather than another player's.

Thoughts?

Merchandise is effected by league leaders. All star voting takes minutes played into account aswell. Not always the best players get chosen, but players who play a lot for their team get chosen. So linking that to merchandise is a bad idea.

The can be treated as 2 seperate entities.. those that play the most and the fans like (irrespective of their quality) can also receive a boost for there popularity.. In most cases I imagine the best players will be the main merchandise providers but for some teams who have great players but not great enough to force their way into their NT set up can still be rewarded. It sucks trying to train a player from a country with known farms knowing however good you make him for your club there will be a IV team pumping up someone to take his NT spot. Why shouldnt you get more merchandise money for someone like that?

That's not true. I just had my player elected to ASG with a huge edge even though I had bought him a week ago and he only played one league game!

He has played 46,2 min/game average this season. You bought him recently, but his seasonal minutes still count...

Today's economic update revealed that, the election of my 4 players to START in the all-star game resulted in a merchandise increase of a whopping $200. I neither bought nor sold any players during that time.

Can anyone explain how this mimics any sort of real economic principles? Again, the league's fans VOTED for these players, but won't spend their money to buy their jerseys over other players in the league? If they like the other players better (for whatever reason: size of attendance, national team, etc) they would have voted for those players to start in the all-star game.

/ frustration

absolutely plausible but, if that were the case, I wouldn't have 4 all star starters and a merchandise income 7K below league average.

As we all know, merchandise income is related both to origin and stats of one's team's players. I had a quick look at your team and league and noticed that you have no relevant US or even self-drafted player in your roster. The other teams of your league seem to be a bit ahead of you in that regard.

I don't want to discuss the realism of this merchandise calculation. In my opinion the allstar selection should be more likely to be improved than the merchandise thing - resulting in an approximation of the selection towards the merchandise values, just because it's a fan voting and no stat based one. I repeat, this would be just a logical consequence, I do not want to judge about the merchandise calculation.

Apart from these theoretical thoughts, I share the opinion that something has to be done about that allstar thing. But if an allstar nomination should be tied up with the merchandise calculation in its current state, some other improvements seem to be inevitable. Please have a look at (130090.1) and (143412.1).
