I havent timed it so I might be wrong but it seems you "time out" very very quickly.
It is annoying for example when you try to set the rooster for games and scout/think about the micromanaging joys that a sim like this brings only to discover that when you press the "set" button youve been logged out and all the micromgmt is spilled out in cspace. Another example is when you read and think about long well written threads in the forums or when you are in bidding situations on the transfer list and go fill your coffeecup in the 5 minute waiting time.. only to get back and have to re-login and miss the sought after player.

The more users that are logged in, the more server load there is.

Logging out users that apparently aren't doing anything is a way to combat that.

That said, the BBs are always tweaking the timeout function.

i have the same thought too... especially when i read or post the forums... the log timeout is too fast...

but i just countered it with opening another window then quick surfing the site to avoid logouts...

Now it happened again and Im stunned at the warpspeed it uses. I just put in a bid and maybe 5 seconds went by before I clicked back to the bid overview to check on another player when <drumroll> I was logged out.

5 seconds is a very short time to determine "arent doing anything"..
..and with only 587 users online I doubt the "server load" is overwhelming...

Im not trying to be a smartass (well, in my own language I might try it but..) just trying to point out that there might be something not quite right with the timeout settings..

It just happened to me a short while ago but that was the first time for me. It may have just been a hiccup.

Hmmm, it's supposed to wait 20 minutes... this is a problem if that isn't working correctly. Keep me posted if it keeps being a problem.
Cheers

i always browse in different tabs, so if i got a logout/timeout i just open a new tab login again, go back to the other and press backward, with this technique it is not so annoying, costs you just 3 klicks ^^
