I have these 2 players I play at the PF position and one of them is much better attribute wise than the other. So I usually start this guy(12808542) and let the other one(8887455) come off the bench. But I have started the second guy in a couple of games this season. Anyway, its 10 games into the season and the second player has consistently outperformed the first and his stats are much better. Initially I thought it might be gameshape but then I noticed even on weeks where the gameshape was the same for both the bench player was playing better. So is this just 'roll of the dice' probability or is there some sort of form factor in the game and my bench player is having a better season?

If so I might start the bench player in future games.

the def of the opposition , n the game shape of the opposition could be the reason, your tactics , your opponents tactics could be the reason, other match ups could be stronger or weaker causing your pf starter/bench player to be more /less involved in the game could be the reason as well , were you tieing , normalling or cruching ? was your opponent ? had you or your opponent crunched or tied previous to these games ? these could also play a factor in why one player is playing better then the other.

in general if 2 players have the same visible game shape and your deciding who to start play the better skilled 1
ofcourse that is if mins towards gameshape allow that to be an option.

Yes, well all those factors would apply to both players. They've played in the same games you see, not different games. When they've had same gameshape. So either there is some hidden variable or its just luck. Generally I wouldn't bring this up, but 10 games seems like a long stretch for random fluctuations.

What about their stamina? If you play low-stamina guys for longer stretches their production will considerably go down, which is reflected in the overall rating. Just a thought...

Brownlee, the bench player, has lower stamina actually. Hasn't anyone else seen this kind of thing with their players - where your starter in some position is being outperformed consistently by your bench player over a whole season?

In my experience, if a player plays backup minutes (12) his rating will be higher than if the same player plays starter minutes (36). For example, my backup PF in backup minutes will generate a rating of ~10, the same player in starter minutes will generate a rating of ~8.5.

Further, if your backup started a game, he would likely be playing against players with higher skill and as such his rating would likely be lower than it is in his backup role.

Another thougt: I had a short look at your roster and I noticed that Brownlee is listed at small forward, so I guess his secondary skills are better than your starting power forward's. That could help him to put up better stats...

That might be a reason. He is a little better at creating his own shot, but not that much better. And my starter MacDulothe is a much better shooter inside and outside, in fact he was my second highest scorer last season and the top scorer the season before. And Brownlee was awful the last two seasons and since he's not one of my trainees his attributes are the same as before. Additionally MacDulothe's ball skills have actually improved from training this season. So...

Brownlee's rebounding stats for example are up from 3.4 in 16 mins last season to 9 in 18 mins this season! Like I said its possible that this is just a fluctuation and will even out but 10 games seemed like a pretty long time - esp because other teams' players have probably improved this season whereas Brownlee has not. So I thought if there is some sort of hidden form factor that would be a pretty neat feature.

I'm running out of explanations, there's only one thing left I could imagine: Brownlee as a backup could play more often your opponents' backups who have obviously worse skills than their starters. But maybe you're right about that secret form, I just haven't heard about it yet in the forum and I don't really get why there should be two form stats, game shape and an additional one. But then again, there are people around who claim a lot of secret "skills" like aggressiveness etc. Guess we have to admit we just don't know...

If you don't mind, could you post the skills of the 2 players here, there could be something quite obvious as the problem but we can't tell because we can't see that skills.

I thought there was a physical hidden attribute for certain - I'd read that in the forum from a GM somewhere. So maybe there are others? Personally I think it would be neat if there were.

To Naker: The two players are very similar actually - I bought Brownlee after doing a search based on MacDulothe's skills. Which is partly why it seems so weird to me. And if you read what I wrote before, the last two seasons MacDulothe has been a go-to guy while Brownlee's numbers have been very mediocre. This season MacDulothe's skills have actually improved from training while Brownlee's have not. So clearly it cant be the skills.

I just noticed though that Brownlee's experience has bumped up to one level more than MacDulothe's this season. But I doubt its that. So I'm left with extended randomness or some 'x factor'..
