Is enthusiasm reset to 5 right before the playoffs start, or does it just continue from where it left off (the n increase and decrease)after the last game of the regular season?

It leaves off from the last regular league game, but the only difference is that when you play a play-off game on normal enthusiasm then your enthusiasm goes up instead of staying the same. Hope this helps.

Enthusiasm ONLY resets at the end of the playoffs. Your enthusiasm carries over from the end of the regular season into the playoffs.
