So, what's everybody think about the new scouting system? I gave it a quick read through and it sounds like there is a bit more control over the scouting which is cool. I wasn't sure but it looks like you are already given the information on the player's star ratings which takes most of the chance out of the draft so I don't know if that is right.

Anybody started fiddling around with it yet?

Im still trying to figure out...I put a lot of money in it since I knew I was going to finish close to last. Hopefully I can get a good player or 2 with the new system

I did the combine and got the heights and ages. That seems to be pretty useful.

I don't typically invest in the draft. Usually it is more efficient to buy a player later on in the market. But, it should be profitable for someone.

Yeah I only had 11 points so I did the combine and scouted one young short guy (who turned out to be terrible, boo). Seems like a much better system than before.

So after looking a little closer, I guess that initial rating that shows up is just an estimate that can be way off. I tried to scout one guy who was considered a 5 star and he turned out to be 2 star. So that is kind of interesting, maybe it gives some reason to do the group demonstration so you can at least try to weed out all of the terrible prospects for 10 points. Still not sure what the best strategy for sussing this thing out is.

I did the same thing. I thing you're right. You need to do the combine as an initial first step to weed through the accurate starting points and ages. I looked at 2 supposed five ball players and they both turned out to be 2 ball centers. I did a one ball rating and it was a thee ball player and I did a four ball player that was a five ball rated player. So, it's still a crapshoot and it clearly pays to use the first ten points to do the combine.

The combine is pretty essential for ages and heights. The relative value for an 18 year old is much higher than a 19 year old, such that I do not forsee ranking any 19 year old ahead of the crop of 18 year olds. Until they give 19 year olds comparable stats to a trained 18 year old, this should be the case.

I do not see the initial ball ratings as very accurate - just used in the absence of any other information. I like the new system, but I do not know if I am going to invest any more $$ unless they actually upgraded the pool of draft talent.

I am thinking of the group deal, then pick and choose til I get to 10 points. If I like what I see, then I will do the scouting combine. I did the max this season and will continue to do so until the end of the season - and I am very intrigued to see what I find out.

But it's very nice - I like knowing where I am spending my time and effort on scouting. I am thinking it's going to get more expensive tho. Nothing like tanking a season or 3 to get the best prospects and build.

Yeah...new system looks to be an improvement. Not sure how much I should spend on it...picking toward the end doesn't yield much, in my experience.

Agreed. Especially since, based on the league average and knowing I'm only spending $5k/week, the league average is $20k/week so I'm assuming all the talent will be gone by the time we pick at the end.

Which is why I went the whole lot. I wanted to know if scouting made a difference....

By the time this is finished, I should be picking around 12th :) Stay tuned in a few weeks.
