Hello all,
Is there any reason for different trainers to have different salaries? Is it in any way related to their skill (subskill) in training or is completely arbitrary?

Trainer skill is irrelevant of salary. All level 4 trainers perform the same. Different salary means you try and bid on cheaper ones.
