what do they mean? is it something to do with their salary? if so, what would a A grade players salary be around?

it doesn't say anything about the grade rating, just the balls

I think this should answer nearly all questions relating to draft balls:

(120597.1)

Here is the info I have gathered (please feel free to supplement it or add to it)
For the following Star ratings this is the salary ranges to expect from the players you draft.
5: Stars >3700
4 Stars: 2800-3700
3 Stars: 2300-2800
2 Stars: 1900-2300
1 star: <1900

We have both said a lot of things that you are going to regret.

What I would like is for someone to do research about the letter grades incorporated with the stars. For example A+ A and A- are all 5 balls but each probably have their own salary. I doubt each has 3700, or maybe A- is 3700 and it goes up from there. Otherwise what is the purpose of letter grades.

You might want to read through the thread he linked, there is some discussion (although not to the point where I'd call it research) of matching the letter grades up to a salary range. I think one problem with getting solid research on it is that most people were lucky to be able to draft more than 1 player who they new the letter grade for, making it very difficult to get enough data points. If each person who participates can only provide one piece of data, you'd need a lot of people providing the letter grade and the starting salary to come up with good numbers.
