To me, layups are the most frustrating dynamic in the entire game. I dread it when a layup is attempted. Whether it's an attempt by my prolific DRV, strong IS shot SF or my respectable DRV, sensational IS C (or usually, attempts by my higher DRV guards), they're simply not high percentage shots. I'm talking about games against bot teams even. I can also attest to playing against teams and players that I know whose guards don't have good inside defence, but I simply can't hit a layup to save my life. None of my players hit them with regularity.
I play RnG to basically try to avoid layup attempts with one of my players, but tonight he went 0-5 on them against a bot. Thankfully he was fouled on the 6th and 7th attempts. He has pitiful IS and I'm aware of how bad that is, but how much IS would I need to hit about 40-50% of my open layup attempts? This is mostly curiosity and frustration, not complete anger btw.
So if you'd indulge me, is there a point where layups can be made with frequency? Is extremely high driving necessary? Is high inside shot necessary? Both? Is there a relationship between the two that should be met? At what point would I have confidence that I'd hit even 40% of my layup attempts? I am positive that my PG and SG are hitting less than 30% of their layup tries. I would assume one of them is hitting under 25% of his layups and it's crippling. When I begin facing stiffer competition layups are going to lose me games.
Thanks.

Think about them not as an open breakaway layups but difficult contested moves to the hoop.
Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

If you see where the lay-ups are taken who will see that some of them are kinda far from the basket.,
