It depends from the distribution of the skills of the unbalanced player
If he has low values in skills that are fast to train(i.e. JS-DR),the boost could be very useful;if he has low values in skills that are slow to train(i.e. OD-JR),this lack of skills could create you problems while you try to train them,for example a player with low OD could be foul prone and he could not have the complete training every week,so losing the effect of the boost,besides having a less useful player in the short time

I think that the unbalanced player is better because JR takes longer to trian, and JS, handeling, and passing all trian in around 2 weeks with a level 5 player. their height matters though.

Agreed.

I also think that new trainees need to fit into existing training plans. So if you have two guard trainees who have passing and JR close to where you want it but need lots of work on OD then it might not make sense to get a player with pitiful passing and JR but respectable OD since they will just get more unbalanced as you train.

P.S. But if you have to work a lot on Od for a guard maybe there's something wrong ;P
