and with this write up, the super lazy trio is now up to date again and ready for tonights games!
Big 8 MVP:
Leslie Gafa (Lewisham Wombats)
Leslie is back, its getting hard to think of new things to pick on him so i'll just list his stats. 37 points, 7 rebounds, 13-24 FG, 5-11 3pts
Runner Ups:
Shaun Mueller (Black Label Society)
In a protest against being relegated to the bench in recent weeks Shaun relished the chance to start again, Putting u 29 points off 11-19 shooting as well as pulling down 17 boards and blocking 3 shots.
Garth Patrick (Canberra Crushers)
The old timer put up 30 points in the Crushers win over the Berwick Beers in a low scoring affair
Great 8 MVP:
Couto Costa (Pancakes with Jam and Cream)
Couto continued his hot streak against the 6th seeded Lara Giants. He went off for 37 points including a perfect 7-7 from the 3pt line. He also added 11 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in the 22 point win.
Couto has really been controlling the Pancakes offense since the all star break and is really pushing his MVP status with a powerful late charge.
Runner ups:
Trendafil Ogenov (Coolcats)
Sui Haili is the leader of this team but Ogenov has often been the more important player for the Coolcats this season. He really helps hold the team together with his inside presence and shows a surprisingly good outside touch for a big man in the Coolcats run and gun offense. These skills were on display tonight in the shootout against the Flames with Ogenov scoring 28 points on an incredible 11-13 shooting including 2-2 from downtown and 4-4 from the charity stripe. He also pulled in 20 rebounds, dished 4 assists and had a couple of blocks for the night in the Coolcats 133-127 win.
Mathieu Desbos (Billy Hoyle Boys)
His partner inside, Dos Santos has been channeling the spirit of Dikembe Mutombo the last couple of games but Desbos had more of an overall impact on this one. He scored 24 points on 50% shooting to go along with his 22 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal in the 7 point victory over the 4th seeded Snuffies in a very important game for the BHB playoffs run.
Rising Star:
Third - Trpimir Zupanic (BLS)
A solid all round offensive performance from Zupanic, as he scored 10 points, dished off 6 assists, and pulled down 7 boards in the Society's win over the Eagles. I did have Zupanic in second, until I realised he was defending this rounds rising star, so he loses some points for that :D.
Second - Mikey Bergman (BHB)
A solid, if unspectacular performance from Bergman this round, as he scored 14 points and dished off 9 assists in the Boy's win over Snuffies. Bergman extends his lead in the rising star, and is the clear favourite now to take out the award.
First - Rikkio Eguchi (Eagles)
The Japanese U21 player had something of a breakout game against the Society, picking up his second lot of votes in a row. Eguchi rained down 6 threes, on his way to 26 points in a strong offensive performance. Paired with 5 rebounds and 4 assists, Eguchi is the clear winner for this round.
