As it appears I will be promoting I am looking for what some other opinions are on how I could improve my team based on my current roster and team ratings. I currently have ~100k in the bank, + the promotion bonus.

I think your team is fine as is so far. You can try to improve anywhere, but there is no urgent need to do so at any position, or rather, could depend on the league you end up in. My question would rather be what you want to achieve up there. Is your arena tall enough? Do you have any useful trainees? If yes, do you have enough of them on the relevant training spots?

i dont agree that your roster is fine

i am not from usa but i hear that usa iv is much harder than v

you would be wanting to get some 20k players at least at some stage, they are cheap now, especially big men

next who the heck are you training? you only have 3 young guys and one is role player potential

i think you need to get more trainees - the draft may be kind but you have a bad pick and at least one "star" player who is a scoring machine or a defensive stopper or both

I don't think it is necessary to have 6 trainees. It is one strategy, but not the only one.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

You have a pretty good team for the moment. Since you don't have a lot of money, you should see what division you wind up in and how competitive it is. After that you can make an assessment, and if needed, buy 1 or 2 better players.
Or something else to consider, is to expand your arena to boost your earnings (especially the court side seats).

I think it is going to be tough for you to compete right away with your lack of funds/trainees. I would focus this offseason on getting some good guys to train, and hope you get placed in a league where your top 4 players will at least get you in a relegation series while you save some money, and maybe build up your arena. Hopefully by the end of the season you will have saved up quite a bit of money, and depending on how the season has gone you can buy a quality player to avoid relegation or upgrade your trainees.

I think at DIV in USA it is critical to have quality trainees between 18-22. Money is very tight at this level, but at the end of the season/playoffs these trainees could be some of your best players, and should be playing way above their salary. My young backcourt is the main reason I am about to play in the league finals.

I already have a pair of decent trainees in my 18 and 20 year olds, and I am planning on picking up one more through the draft hopefully.

This.
As I understand, and what I am currently doing, is that 1st season in Div IV is developing trainees and expanding arena constantly. This season my arena has expanded almost 1500 seats, and as a result my gate receipts up almost 30k per home game. Also trainees. Throughout Div V you found your trainees, and maybe got a season of training in. Well first season in Div IV is also a season to focus on developing your future core players.

Season Two is where you want to try and prepare for making a run for a championship. Depending on difficulty of your league this may or may not be as easy, or as quick as you think, but nonetheless this is a season where you want to continue training your 20-21 y/o's, and save up the money that last season you would have been using to expand your arena, to find players that you think could help you make a championship run. These players are usually 15k+ in salary and balanced, and not one dimensional. Defense is key in Div IV so look for that in your players. Also backups are important, and gameshape is critical in Div IV.

Again that is a path I am taking, and a path that people before me have taken and succeeded in doing. One thing I am doing is selling my draft pick(unless of course it is simply amazing) so that can give me an extra 300-1+ million to use spend on my roster.
