Hi!

I recently started this game and now I have a question, should I start scouting already now? are those players for the next draft already created so I can start looking at them? if not, why should I scout now?

and how important is the scouting? as you might guess, my economy is not the best.

thanks!

btw: how do I search in this forum?

I would say that it's important to start now. And i'd reccomend investing 10k a week. The players are not created yet but the amount of scouting you do, will affect the amount of information you get on these players at the end of the season.

Scouting is important no matter how good your team is, i was in 1st season last year and scouted 10k a week. I won the league (so last pick) but still got my first A+ pick. Becuase i had more info than everyone else.

Scouting and the draft are kind of odd, especially for someone new to BB.

About 2-3 weeks before the end of the season you will be given a list of 48 "players". They will be identified by a number from 1-48, with the numbers being randomly selected for each of the teams in your league (III.1). So your player number 5, could be someone elses number 7, and a 3rd team's number 37.

If you haven't scouted a player, you won't know anything about him. If you have you might know a star rating between 1 and 5; a letter grade between A+ and F-; and a best skill (rebounding, FT, IS, etc.). The more players you scout, the more you will know about more players.

You then sort your list, which for the most part means putting the 4 and 5 stars at the top, the 1 and 2 stars at the bottom, and the 3 stars and unknowns in the middle. This will be your draft list. When your turn in the draft comes up, you will select the player highest on your list who hasn't been drafted yet.

The 3 new drafted players will show up on your roster the day after the draft.

Since most teams won't know about most players, you will usually get most of your highest picks. I drafted 14th, 30th and 46th - yet got my 3rd, 10th, and 17th pick. My top pick would be starting, except that he is the same position from by top pick from the season before. I was able to sell my 2nd pick, and I fired my 3rd pick.

In your current league, you will have a lot of new teams added during the season, while others become bots. So a lot of teams will do very little scouting, and a few won't even re-order their picks.

So I wouldn't do a lot of scouting. Last season I did $5000/week. This season, I went up to $10,000 after promoting. You can spend the money you save on TL. After the draft at the end of the season, a lot of teams will either be trying to sell their draftees, or selling older players displaced by their draftees.

If you have you might know a star rating between 1 and 5; a letter grade between A+ and F-; and a best skill (rebounding, FT, IS, etc.).

Just a quick addition/correction:

5 stars can be A-, A, or A+
4 stars can be B-, B, or B+
and so on...

The letter grade thus simply gives a more precise rating than the star rating: is that 5 star player actually close to just 4 stars or is he potentially the best player in the draft.

The third piece of information you get from the scouting report is not the best skill but instead the best position (PG, SG, SF, PF or C).

I wouldn't put it that way.

You probably had a lot of ownerless teams in the league, so they pick random (they don't rearrange their players). If you see 1 A+ player; and you have 15 teams who pick before you, chances are real slim you will get that player. If there is a decent amount of players or bot teams who don't sort their draftlist, then you have a chance of getting him, but he might also 'accidentally' be picked by an other team.

Without any info though, you are as blind as a bot team... so everyone wanting to sort their draftlist should get at least some info.

Some teams might however put 10k aside every week, or 20k, or even 40k (I guess that if you plan on being No1 in your league this is no bad tactic), and use it to buy 1 decent player at the start of the new season, rather than spend it on scouting and hoping for a few good youth players. Ofcourse by doing this you leave the good youths to your opponents...
It all depends on your team and your preferences.
Example: Should I have need for only 1 good PG, and am planning on training PF and C for 2 seasons to come, and have enough trainees for these positions, I might cut scouting, and spare that money to buy 1 trained PG. Should I put money in scouting and pull a C or PF with draft, I would just get 1 more trainee on a position where I already have enough, should I pull a SG or SF, I would not train him, nor can I use him, so I'd have to sell. Should I pull the needed PG, he will still need training, and I'm not training PG. So in the end it would be best to just spare the money and buy the PG I need...

They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.
