I have these two guards who played the same no. of minutes last season. One managed 2.9 rebounds with his atrocious rebounding and the other had 3.9 in spite of being an average rebounder. While this other guard who also has average rebounding pulled down 19 rebounds in a game when I played him at center. I was trying to lose the game but ended up winning it - thanks to my 6'0" guard's 19 rebounds. Seems like guards don't get enough rebounds to come their way, until you play them at center when they suddenly become monsters under the basket - all 6 feet 0 inches of them. Any comments?

It's easy to explain even if rebound seems the most "random" skill in BB. Reb is a skill useful for centers and they take the best % of the total rebounds. If you put your guard with lvl 1 in position of center for sure he will get more rebs than in his natural position.

Put it this way: How many often you see in basketball game rebounds collected at 3pt line? :D
Everything else above me ^^.

Okay I have a couple of things to point out (some may have been pointed out by previous posters).

1. Height is irrelevant. So the fact that they are 6 feet or 7 feet doesn't affect rebounds at all in the game.
2. If you watch a basketball game, you will notice that missed shots are often rebounded close to the ring. This is common sense. As Centers and Powerforwards play closer to the ring they get more rebounds in general irrespective of the rebounding skill.
3. The opponent and tactics come in to play a lot which could explain why the rebounding averages per game were so close.

I understand your arguments, but it seems that the rebounding skill is wasted on guards. What level rebounding would a guy like Jason Kidd have in this game?

It seems to me that there is a slight discrepancy when a guard pulls down 19 rebounds just because you play him at center. 10-12 would be high enough. Not enough effort is being made by wingmen to get to rebounds.

The fact is that the guards of both team will not have more than a little percentages of all the rebounds,so your guard can win the battle against his adversary, but the total number of rebound will be however relatively low, aslo if your guard is a great rebounder
When I trained a Sf some season ago, when I put him in PG position because of training he grabs 5-6 rebounds, when i put him at Pf or C he grabbed over double digit rebounds

I had said the guy had average rebounding, not atrocious. But I re-checked and he only has mediocre rebounding. Had an average of 4.4 rebounds per game - obviously the no. got a huge kick because of the 19 in 1 game.

Thats what I was saying is the problem. That too many rebounds go to the battle between the centers and not enough to the guards.

You have to account for who the opponent plays and i don't see anything strange in that game considering that your mediocre rebounder went up against 3k salary shooting guard playing the pf position.
