It doesn't seem like my rookie player is doing any training even though he is getting the minutes. He doesn't appear on the training box in team management. How can I get him to train?

In order for a player to receive full training in a given week you must play him 48 minutes at the position(s) you selected to train that week. For example, if you decided to train jump shot on guards (PG/SG) your player would need to amass 48 minutes at either PG, SG, or a combination of the two.

You can access your training choices by selecting Training from the long menu on the left. In order to get an overview of the minutes players have played in different positions, select Weekly Stats from the long menu on the left. With that said, Pinsonnault is the only player on your team worth training. Your others are 20 somethings with poor skills. It will be optimal to do single/double position training with Pinsonnault, or in other words to use non-team training methods for a selection covering the minimal number of positions. Since you have already played him as PF this week, you will want to look at the ones that have a minimal selection that includes PF such as rebounding. This will be better for his training. You have to make sure he is playing in the position that you want to be trained. for example if you are training JS you have to play him as either a PG or a SG. If you are training something like passing you can either choose to have single or double position training. If you choose single position and you want him to receive training you have to make sure he plays at the PG position.

Also with training try manage minutes to between 48 and 80 per week so that game shape is maximized and training will be more effective.

I don't think he meant directly, but you could say that GS has the potential to indirectly effect training. If you try to start a player affected by low GS, he may get substituted early and miss training minutes. GS is of course, only one of many factors that determine the strength of a player. There is an ancient thread I bookmarked (174.5) that explained substitutions well, and I think it is still relevant. So if there are less minutes earned, this could reduce the effectiveness of training if you are unable to make the minutes up. Trying to make the minutes up while single position training could affect the minutes of another player you planned to train, or force you to switch to double position training to squeeze in everyone.

If the player doesn't get enough minutes for the week due to poor GS, it could cause him to drop even further the next week making the above situation even more likely. About the 48-80 minutes bit... I try to make sure my players have 45-75 minutes as a general rule, and that is with a Doctor that has massage specialty. It seems to work out pretty well for me, although lately I have started making some occasional sacrifices to game shape and my quality of lineups as needed for training. I will sometimes push players beyond 75, but now we have the new coach parrot to calculate the probability of next weeks GS changes it is easier for me to make these important lineup decisions.
