The allstar game is very pointless and most users will admit that. Maybe there should be something that makes it have a meaningful purpose. Maybe have making the allstar team an achivement on a players "history" page. Or maybe giving a small(10k?) amount of cash to managers for each player that makes the squad or having all star team from one league faceoff with allstars from another league or having all star team from lower division team play a Division 1 team or SOMETHING.

Well, I've been thinking about some ideas close to these for the All Star Game.

So far, the system already choses 4 players for each position so I think it should be possible to release this list one week earlier to allow the managers to vote for the starting five.
I like your idea of giving a weight for active players and non-active ones.

Therefore, after this vote, we will have the starting five and the substitutes for each conference.

Then, the coach. In NBA, the coach for the All-Star Game is the coach of the best team and I think that it should be the same here too. But since the roster is already chosen by the vote, he is only allowed to chose the tactics.
Of course, no home advantage for that game.

So, the managers are at least a little bit involved in the game but I'm not sure that it would be enough to make them really interested in it.
For most of the teams, the All-Star Break is a synonym of bad financial results since there is only one official game played (and for half of the teams, this is an away game without any income). So I suggest two possibilities :
- Give a little increase in the Merchandising for the teams who had a player in the victorious team (let's say 25.000$ for example, half of a qualification for the next round in the Cup)
- Give the same increase in the Merchandising of all the teams of the winning team (maybe would make more sense because, for example, if the coach managing the All Star Team doesn't have any of his own players in the roster, he will not have any real interest in winning the game, and might even try to lose it to prevent his opponents in his conference to get some money).

I think that without involving a little bit of money, it would be hard to interest the managers in this All Star Game.

Also, as you said, on the player history, it should be written when the player was selected for a All Star Game and also, if he won the 3 points contest.

For the 3 points contest, since it is 100% random (nobody chose the shooters and nobody has any influence on the results), I think there is no need to change anything, apart maybe for the use of the game viewer to see the position of the shoots.

about the tactics, i like it with the neutral facus on offense and defense and i also think that this is the case in allstar games world wide because the coach don't have the time to train plays and normally everyplayer try to shine(and then you won't pass the ball outside for a three pointer everytime instead of making an highlight dunk).

The voting would be ok for me, but honestly i like to see some defence* and some breaks in the games for substitutes(which is the real purpose for coaches on ASD).

* still can be highscoring but the actual results are a joke in my eyes.

This could be interresting, but I suppose all teams of that winning conference should get revenue. Then everyone would be involved. So it has to be probably something different than merchandising, arena revenue splitted between 8 teams.

Also basic setting of the tactic sounds great, probably would happen that managers from starting 5 would uncover some skills to the manager who is setting a tactic. Which means kind of cooperation.

3 points contest should be in my opinion reduced in the way so 1 team can have there only 1 player. Then might happen that his profile picture might be changed for the rest of the season, and he would have crown on his head or something.

I agree with CrazyEye, we need more defense to make ASG interesting. In real life, there is no defense, but the quality of the game is made by seeing Lebron, Kobe or Shaq doing some crazy thing in HD, not some dots making 3pt after 3pt. ASG in BB can be interesting if there is a real challenge and willing to see his conference beat the other one in a fair fight where the best defense player have some importance, when a foul at the last second can change the game. Yeah okay, it's impressive to see our Center makes 5/5 3pt, but why did he not participate in the 3pr contest an hour earlier ?

our ASD finished 170:151, even the NBA defend much harder i believe ;)

at least implementation of an all star MVP award can make things a little bit more fun.
