If you have a player who has star potential and then another player who has all the same skills, height, age etc, but has superstar potential. Will the star player train at the same speed as the superstar player until he reaches his salary cap?

Great question. The potential does not affect the training speed until a player gets close to his cap. The training speed will then slow down.
