With the new rule that teams dont have to pay salaries if they have no competitive game, fifth place has just become much more interesting than place 4 and the income you get from 1 playoff game (in most leagues I know the no1 seed crushes the no4)

I don't know if this was the best idea to "upgrade" the 5th place.

at least with 4th place you get a chance to promote
we'll always have a position that we want to avoid, no matter what

You always have the chance to win in the lottery, however I wouldn't consider this chance as very realistic. I estimate the %age of no4 seeds being promoted (not through bot replacement) less than 5%. Maybe some1 can provide some data on this...

With the 4th, you got few bucks with attendance, a small chance to be promoted, but you also got an additionnal game for training.

I have always assumed that making the playoffs gives a better fan survey for the next season over coming in 5th. If it doesnt really it should. If it does this also gives an edge (however slight) to 4th over 5th as well.

Id really think good about tanking a few games and avoid paying a whole week of team salary. My salary is low but other guys here have hundreds of thousands. Come to think of it, I'd tank on purpose actually. Maybe someone will get a half ball to 1 ball less on fan survey by tanking, maybe its just 1-2 games and the rating wont change, reguardless I think there just too much of an incentive to tank now between no salary, and 3-5 spots higher in draft.

I dont think it will be as profitable as you make it sound. Yes you will save a weeks salary if you lose on purpose to drop to 5th. What you will lose by doing this is half a weeks salary in the 'got creamed' playoff game, one game of training, alot of lost revenue in your final home game(s) due to the fact that you tanked previous games, and lost revenue (however slight) in next season's 11 home games due to the fan survey section that says 'happy about last years performance'. I lose one road game to a tough opponents and i lose 20k or more my next home game from my fickle fans bailing on me. I am sure tanking vs a weaker opponent will have at least that effect.

And just train jumpshot/rebound/one on one for that 1 game less.

Huh?

Rather than training one position on three games ==> 3 players, training two position on two games ==> those 3 players and an additional one.

that, with an additional game, would become 6 players

Exactly. My confusion was in how it sounded like this solved the problem of losing a training game
