H! I have a question and I hope someone will be able to help.
Tomorrow I'll be playing against a much weaker opponent and I want to distribute minutes properly, especially for 2 trainees on SF and PF (48 minutes both). By 4th quarter, I will probably have a lead that is bigger than 20 points, so my coach will bench starting 5. How can avoid that? I set my lineup like this:

Starting player/Backup/Reserve:

PG: A/B/B
SG: C/D/D
SF: E/empty/empty
PF: F/empty/empty
C: G/H/H

I know that if I wanted to avoid benching my trainees, on non-training positions I should do like this:

A/B/empty

because in this scenario, noone is set as a reserve which comes on court in 4th quarter when you're leading for more than 20. But if I do this, then player "B" will play about 8-10 minutes and that's not enough for him (for now, let's ignore the fact that player B will probably get enough minutes because he will play whole 4th quarter). Do you have any advice? Thanks!

If you want your SF and PF to play the whole game, you need to set it as

SF: E/E/E
PF: F/F/F

If all other substitute and reserve slots are assigned, like you have there, you should be fine. Make sure that you don't take any players to the game, other than the ones you plan on using

System that has worked for me:
PG: A/B
SG: C/D
SF: E
PF: F
C: G/H

Substitutions: Strictly follow depth chart
Foul Trouble: Let them play

No reserves. Also only these 8 players on lineup. A while back I forgot someone else there and in the end he messed my training. Minutes should be like 30min for player A and 18min for player B in a easy game. Of course stamina influences here.

Thank you very much for your help from you all! You gave me different advices, so I'll try both of them in next games.

Napauttaja: I tried this already and I don't know why, but subs always played no more than 12-15 minutes. Ideal would be a split of 30/18 or even 28/20....

Bossofbosses, I will try your proposition first and see if it works for me also, if not, I'll try napauttaja's. In any case, I'll report back here and tell if it worked. Thanks!

Do it like this..

PG: A/B/C
SG: C/D/A
SF: Trainee all 3 slots
PF: Trainee all 3 slots
C: E/F/E

I've had success with this so I stick to this when double pos. Once in a while in blowout game my trainee will get subbed out with 1 minute left in the game, so he gets 47 minutes. Dont know why, but it happens once in a blue moon, but at least its for a minute so its not a big deal if your trainee loses a minute.

Hi!

It was indeed a blowout and my coach set the starting 5 (except trainees) few minutes before end of 3rd quarter. I've done like you said and here are the results:

A: 26
B: 22
C: 28
D: 20
E: 21
F: 27

Trainees: full 48 minutes.

The minutes are finally distributed like they should! I think I've never had such nice distribution. I will include this in training guide I'm writing for my country. Thank you very much!
