Hello, I started to play this wonderful game only recently and already noticed that Lithuanian first and second names base is awful. They are unrealistic and in most cases funny. Lets see what we have in Lithuanian NT:

Cesys Varnelis (6878792) - I never heard someone with this first name
Rustam Biktimirov (8166701) First name is middle-asian and second is Russian
Gailenis Kirilevicius (9498624) Gailenis is very rare name.
Eimas Kruopis (6433152) Eimas is very rare
Medartas Laukutis (6878660) Medardas is very uncommon too
Aristotelis Degulys (6879068) only very artistic people would name son this way
Virgimantas Galickas (9502553) never heard this name before
Zigmantas Certautas (10863881) also very rare first name
Kapitonas Timonovas (11358477) if someone would name a child like this - CAPTAIN, would spent rest of days in mental asylum

this is only from one team. looks like someone just copied all names including very rare and they are assigned randomly with no logical factor. There should be a lot of Arturas, Darius, Marius, Tomas and we see names like Genijus (Genius), Kapitonas (Captain) which are even non existant. This is wrong and should be fixed. I am sure that Lithuanian community would provide administration with normal names.

Completely made-up names should not be included in the name database, so if there are such names, you can try to get them removed. Please discuss with your local LA staff. Rare but real names on the other hand belong to the database and add colour to the game. They are somewhat too common in BB due to the way the weighting works in the database and how the randomization does not follow real-world trends in popular first names. I consider it a positive thing myself.

Regarding foreign names, you should note that a small percentage of new players in any country get their from the name database of another country, typically a neighbouring one. For example, for Finnish players we have a great name database, which I believe originally comes from Hattrick where it was contributed by the community. It has been updated for BuzzerBeater to include a couple of missing (and very rare) family names. However, we get about 10% of player names from other countries, mostly Sweden, and there is no way to control those names as long as the users and staff in those countries are happy. Naturally the amount of foreign names you get in Lithuania is not necessarily accurate. Please again discuss with your local LA staff, do the necessary research, and make a suggestion to the BB's if you find there is an issue. Anyway, having Russian names in Lithuania does not seem very surprising, so that is probably correct but the exact number may be inaccurate.

There can be some oddities. For some time, the Finnish players received a lot of Dutch names, which is highly unrealistic. That was later changed. Now I believe we actually have the most accurate names database in BB. Only the internal database weights could be improved, but that's too much for something that adds very little to the user experience.

Message was written by Finn, and it was about his Lithuanian player Benedikt Kauponen. First, i thought he won smth and renamed his player. Kauponen sounds much more Finnish than Lithuanian.

It definitely has a Finnish ring to it, but it is not from the Finnish list. There are world-wide fewer than 10 known Finnish citizens who have (or have had) this last name, and we therefore have not included it in the database. The records show 74 Finnish men (zero women) with first name Benedikt, 67 of them since year 1900, 37 of whom were born in 1980 or later. I was just bragging that we probably have the best name database, but this first name is not there. So good job on calling my bluff. :-) I may add it, because it's not a "dying name" (i.e. there are several recently born people who have this name).

I checked and it's not from the Estonian or Lithuanian list either.

It seems 95% of Lithuanian names come from the Lithuanian list. If you want to update the list, you need to do some pretty serious research to guarantee that you are really improving the list (this includes applying reasonable weights).

I am U-21 coach and I remember I got message about young talent. Message was written by Finn, and it was about his Lithuanian player Benedikt Kauponen. First, i thought he won smth and renamed his player

as said before, that could be naturalised player from finnland, the BB included stats about migration into the game so that when there are few fins in Lithuania who could become lithuanian there are also lithuanians with fin names.

And yes the BB names are usually funny, but i enjoy it and it fit to the players who ain't that serious two :)

PS: When i check the real german nationalteam, we have so many foreign surnames in it
Nowitzki - Poland
Schaffartzik - also Poland?
Harris - American(and they got it from England?)
Green - same as Harris
Wysocki - poland
Idhibbi - marocco

and i would say in there was even more foreign names, but the guys are born and raised in the german and they are german ;) Only Yassin Idhibbi stand a bit betwen the cultures, but this included a third country french where he is also connected too.

The worst name database seems to be the Chinese one.

As WallyOop already said, All name databases are editable by the LAs and GMs.

If you find many wrong names or you think most of the database is wrong, please contact us directly if you know a better name database so that we can see if we can replace it. Otherwise, please try to improve it manually with help from the LAs or GMs.

No big deal.

In BB Australia our NTs are often half filled with immigrant names from Vietnam, Italy and the Arab countries, sprinkled with some Russians and other ethnicities who live in our wonderful country.

All it is doing is reflecting the multicultural state that our country represents!

Ok that makes sense because if Drdhayudna is a common Aussie name then I am greatly uninformed.
