NT Ecuador Postgame:

Walking into Festivus Memorial Arena, I, and i'm sure everybody in there, could feel the place shake as standing ovations were given to both the Ecuador National Team and the United States National Team as both teams came out to show off their stuff in warm-ups. Excitement was at a high but so was the level of USA basketball as the team outscored Ecuador in every quarter and eventually ended up Winning 102-85.

Inside tactics were the name of the game as the United States and Ecuador both played inside focused offenses, Look Inside and and Low Post Respectively. After the first quarter the United States led 28-23 after Dexter Dennison hustled for an offensive rebound with 2 seconds left in the quarter he went up strong as the buzzer went off to give the United States the 5 point lead. With a balanced attack, 5 United States players were in double digits and all players contributed in some way on the court. For the second straight week Jairo Alejandro Renteria and Inez Arzapalo played a dominant game and as described by fellow teammate Ricardo Madrid, " Those two are Monsters.. they just turned on the BeastMode from OFF to [ON]." Renteria was close to having a 20-20 game but in 40 minutes of play scored 19 points and brought in 18 rebounds and 3 dimes. Arzapalo also had an impressive game as the game's leading scorer with 26 points and 13 boards. Willis Lundy coming off the bench was also another player who had an incredible game with only 15 minutes of play scored 10 points and dished 3 assist. Big games by big players on a big time stage these players make America proud and with a 2-0 start in their pool now have a bye week next week but will no doubt keep the focus and intensity up.

The Postgame press conference was just about getting underway as I took my seat among the high level media officials. Selected to speak was PF Inez Arzapalo and SG Dexter Dennison:

Inez Arzapalo:
Me - "Great game out there Inez! You continue to impress!"
Inez - "Thanks, Just was my night."
Me - "Well hopefully you have more of these nights.. I mean 26 points and 13 boards, those are some big numbers."
Inez - "Yeah they are, but still not the BIG numbers that I want."
Me - "Wow really? what are the numbers you want?"
Inez - " I'm the kind of player who's never satisfied, I could of hit the 7 shots I missed and look at that difference 15 more points.. and I don't know if even that satisfies me."
Me - " I like your mindset on the game and wish you the best of luck when it comes to getting that perfect game."
Inez - "Thanks.."
Me- " Oooo by the way how is Jairo doing with his speech lessons?"
Inez - " Well let's just say when I asked him at the hotel this morning what he was having for breakfast he answered me with, "yessh.. es pancakes. anddd wafafles"
Me - " Atleast he's making pancakes.. err I mean progress, but thanks for your time."

Dexter Dennsion:
Me - " Excuse me Dexter, Just wanted to congratulate you on the big win!"
Dexter - "Why thank you"
Me - "21 points and 7 assist, you really opened up the game for a lot of players with your passing."
Dexter - "Well have to get all the my teammates involved but really the "passing award" for this game should go to Joe Bronson 11 assist and the only player this young NT season to have over 10 assist for this team."
Me - "Joe did have a good game, a lot of you did, do you think this makes you a dangerous team with so many weapons?"
Dexter - " No doubt, teams don't have to worry about shutting down one of us, if you want to beat the United States you have to beat ALL of us."
Me - "Confidence is just oozing out of you well congratulations once again!"

Finally I managed to get the postgame statement from NT coach Jfarb001:
"Ecuador really played well, they hung in there, but I'm happy with our focus in the 4th quarter to put the game out of reach. The passing today from Dennison and Bronson was fantastic, we took care of the ball which our assistant coach Rambo was preaching during practice all week...."HEY CLIFF...JUMP OFF ONE!!!!....man...even I thought that was mean..."

In the distance reports state that Cliff Gonzales shed a tear under his stylish shades.. what a baby..
