I am still rather new to the game and I am curious as to whether using a player out of suggested position elecits any penalty. In the case of positions with similar skills sets such as PF/C or PG/SG is there any disadvantage if the skills fit the role very well?

If I am getting this right then it is sometime better to use the guy for example if he is recommended to play C an has good PF skills it is better to use him as PF, and also with SG and PG, I have a guy that is recommended C but is better PF than C.

It is just the way you look at him, what position he can play better.

It's okay if you play a PF at C or vise versa. The player shouldn't bee affected too much. But if you play a SG at the point, you better make sure he has some point guard skills.

Check the Suggestions they are important

Generally, the center and power forward are fairly interchangeable. It is fairly difficult and time consuming to train players who are actually listed as small forwards. Therefore, many people end up playing a SG in the position of a SF. However, others utilize a power forward as a small forward if the power forward has some decent outside skills.

The short answer is, yes, you may position players outside of their listed position.

And do players' positions change as their skills change through training? I assume so, but just started this week.
