Today I did a scouting update for the almost 20 year olds, and will now present my findings! Or, um, somewhat arbitrary rankings. As has become the custom, these rankings are from a U21 point of view.

Previous rankings (from the age 19 list) are shown in parentheses. Keep in mind that these are very rough, and just give my opinion of how players generally stack up against each other. Here is the link to the full post concerning the age 19 rankings for the S13 draftees: (168827.1)

Guards (PG, SG, guard-type SF)

1. Delain Sanderson (1); (16416618)
2. Raymond Janelle (2); (16415633)
3. Herschel Clay (3); (16415804)
4. Jim Tharp (4); (16415817)
5. Joe-Max Phillips (6); (16415669)
6. Kevin O'Dwyer (5); (16414736)
7. Anton Rickard (7); (16416588)
8. Hugo Moore (8); (16415629)
9. Brian Reedy (13); (16415695)
10. Clive Adams (NR); (16416056)
11. Rien Molleman (NR); (16414811)
12. Tommy Saint-Amand (11); (16416304)
13. Itzik Refuah (9); (16415642)
14. Randy Cyr (NR); (16415365)
15. Forest Doherty (15); (16415192)
16. Joel Jeanson (14); (16414996)

Bigs (C, PF, bigman-type SF)

1. David Castro (1); (16416234)
2. Théodore Breton (2); (16415254)
3. Rob Hart (4); (16415023)
4. George Crow (NR); (16415238)
5. Jean-Denis Laframboise (NR); (16415939)
6. Valentin Gaudreault (8); (16415726)
7. Daniel Labbé (7); (16414868)
8. Stu Jenkins (6); (16414753)
9. Isidoro Estevão (3); (16415094)
10. Charles-Benoît Poitiers (NR); (17809838)

The magical mystery of Denny Hall (18665337). NT hopeful, skill count legend, probably not a U21 player, but he still gets some special mention in this space.

Here are some of the thoughts I have about this group
- Very good depth at guard, with more quality players than usual, and some incredible players at the top; Delain Sanderson, for instance, is unusually good for a new 20 year old.
- Not much depth at all in terms of pure Cs and PFs, with some potential cap issues in the top 5 guys or so.
- In general, great training occurred during the age 19 season; most of the top prospects continued to grow at a solid rate, and some lower ranked guys emerged as very good prospects as well.
- In general, a low ceiling class; looking at long term NT prospects, there are only a few MVP+ guys, and potential caps could also become an issue at the U21 level (for a few of the players listed above).

Must be a really deep draft class, really thought rickard would be one of the top guards after this season of training :P

It is a very deep guard class for sure, with lots of talented players. Glancing over my spreadsheet records, I think that Rickard would have ranked #2 in the previous age group (after Gerry Stavridis). Considering that he is at the #7 spot right now, that gives a sense of the difference in strength between the two guard classes (at least at the start of their age 20 seasons).

Don't count Denny out yet...

50/50 he'll find his way onto the U21 by the end of his 21 y/o season. There are alot of guys with limited potential I suspect he's closing in on. His training will be moving into the paint shortly, so expect his progress to speed up a bit as well.

Just wait and see...

David Castro has definately trained quickly. His inside skills are closer to the best 21 year olds right now than they are to his fellow 20 year olds.
