Is bidding on your own player allowed? Is it considered cheating if you bid on a player because you've changed your mind and don't want to sell him ?

You can bid on your own player, but you lose all taxes/transfer fees.

Sometimes bidding on your player is a worthy tactic if for some reason the player is going to go lower than what you think he would go so i wouldn't call a person that does it an idiot.

I've also seen owners bid on their own player to cause a bidding war.

Then THAT's stupid! you will end up getting your player back and paid tax for it!

I think people are smart enough to know not to get involved in a bidding war with a team that is bidding on their own player

People often don't notice those things because they're only concerned about getting the player.

That may be true but it is wise to always check.

I always do. Its not hard to notice either as the owner and current bid is the same. i.e they appear on the same page

you had consider that you lost your player as soon as he got an offer, and when he is the best player on the market in terms of price and value it isn't that bad to buy him back.
