So I sold a player off of my original roster, and now I decided I'd like him back as a memento of the good old days. I messaged the team that bought him and they put him up for sale. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be at the end of the auction and idiot overbid on him by a mile... That team is now owned by a computer manager. I'm wondering if there is any possible way I can get this player back from the bot or if he is doomed to retire on a bot team?

The player will simply retire. His salary is not high enough to be listed as a free agent.

Too bad. I dig that player's name.
This is a good reminder to keep a few of my old dudes as well, despite a near pathological need to clean house
