i think level 4 trainers are the best in usage/cost, but level 5 are also quite popular and could be worth it when you have some decent-good trainees.

you won't notice the difference if you have a level 5 vs a level 4. get a cheap level 4 with a specialty, whichever suits your interest, and save the money.

i think I'll stick with my level 4 because hes cheap and has a specialty. I'll wait to make this investment when i get to D.IV.

it will get you more pops but at most i would think 1-2 a season. when you consider you will probably pay thousands more for a level 5 trainer who would probably have a higher salary too...its not worth it

I think those 1-2 pops per season are worth only for U-21 trainees and noone else.
