Hi All, have just joined the game last week, enjoying it atm. Won 2 x relegation games even though I haven't much idea of what's going on. Fired alot of duds and picked up a couple of blokes also without a great understanding of things.

I have tried to search the FAQ and guides but cannot find answers to a few things I was wondering -

Such as
Training; I have no idea how this works, can someone please explain how you should train your squad?

Draft; I think I have a good handle on draft and scouting, how do I know what # I am likely to be picking at in the draft? (Which I think is the 25th?)

Scrimmages; is there only one scrimmage allowable per week? Should I be rotating players through the scrimmages to balance court time amongst my squad? (Once it is complete)

Squad Nationalities; Is there a limit / requirement for how many foreign and domestic players are allowed in a squad/team?

Thanks in advance, I look forward to getting my head around the game!

Welcome to BuzzerBeater.

Looking at your roster, I can tell you a few things. You should always have around 11 or 12 players on your roster. This helps with something called Game Shape, which is really important in BuzzerBeater. Each week, you should try to play every player, especially the really important players on your roster, between 55-75 minutes (you can check how many minutes each player has played by clicking on the Weekly Stats section). The highest Game Shape can be is proficient (each of these adjectives also corresponds to a number and proficient is 9) and right now your players are below this. If you hold your cursor over the the player's GS you should get what level it is (hold your cursor over Jérôme Robin's Game Shape, which is pitiful, and it will say 2). Remember, 9 is the best.

As for training. Each week you set what you want to train. Click on this to see what each type of training does (78242.1). In order to get full training, the player must play the position that is being trained for 48 minutes. When you click on Manage My Team, it will tell you how many minutes each player has gotten of training that week. A player has gotten maximum training when it says 48+ (which just means a full 48 minutes instead of like 47.75 minutes). Your best trainee is probably Jérôme Robin. Personally, I would wait until after the draft and then buy some good 18 year olds and start training them instead. A good trainee to look at getting would be an 18 year old with at least allstar potential and $3000 salary (btw salary is a rough, but relatively good measure of how good a player is). Wait until after the draft though, because if you buy an 18 year old now, after the draft they will be 19.

The Draft is confusing and difficult to prepare for well. Read the top of the draft page to understand what each thing does. You're a little late this season to be scouting, but for next season, think about saving up 10 draft points and doing the Scouting Combine. Then you can sort your draft least and just put 18 year olds at the top (you can get both 18 and 19 year olds in the draft and 19 year olds are way worse). This season, just hope to get lucky.

Yes you can only scrimmage once a week and you should rotate players because of the Game Shape stuff I mentioned.

Squad Nationalities are not very important, but they do come into play a little bit with merchandising (which is one way your team makes money). You make a little more money if your team has more players from your own country, but don't worry about this at all. It's negligible. There are no limits or requirements for nationalities.

Game Shape is essentially the only thing you need to do to win in the low leagues. Before I bought some players to improve my team I went undefeated in my conference just by managing GS. You can't always keep it at proficient (there is randomness involved) but If you can keep your players at respectable/strong at the lowest you will have success.

If you are going to get a trainee wait until after the draft. There will be tons of trainees on the TL (transfer list) and you will have tons of options. Also after the draft all players age so if you get a 18 year old now he will be 19 before you can do anything with him.

Also use scrimmages to help with your training, if you want to train someone you don't start regularly. Something that is often confusing is that you can only train one skill a week and it depends solely on your training settings on Friday afternoon (Australia time).
