Hi...

Looking for some opinions on what to do with my roster...I'm new and would like to not make some stupid rookie mistakes.

Thanks!

Fire all your players except 19yo and 18 yo Pf/C you could train 'em and you could sell your 21 yo MVP maybe somebody will buy him.

The players you get at the very start are like homeless people who get into your team through charity, fire them... Buy a few guards that are worthy 5-30k and buy 2 big mens that you could train with the current ones.

and read this (144856.1) It's very helpful for a newb

Personally, I would not fire all of your players over 19 years old. I think that is a terrible idea, to be honest.

I would start by getting rid of all the players under 3000 salary to free up some money for salaries. I know it's a lot of players, but they are not very good and won't help your team. I doubt they will sell, so you will probably just have to fire them.

Then, start buying some new players. You should probably start with players inbetween $5000 and $10000 salaries. These players should cost less than $100 000, so you don't want to spend too much moneyon them. When you are buying a player, make sure they are balanced in their skills. You don't want a player that can only take free throws, for example. Make sure they are good on offense and defense, or they simply aren't worth buying. There is some debate about the best players to buy and train, but that is up to you. Also, you shouldn't have two great SGs and no bigmen, or vice versa. You need good starters before you can start working on your bench.

You can also train young players to be your teams next star. I would train Delmer Hamlin since he is 18 years old, has decent potential, has a high salary, and is tall enough to be a bigman. You can train Casey Barbosa along side him so that you get more out of your training. When you are training, single position training is more efficient than training the whole team. For example, a player might pop twice as quick in inside shooting if you train it for just Centers instead of for the whole team.

Finally, once you have a solid roster, you can start fiddeling around with your arena. You can change ticket prices or build more seats to make the most money you can from it. Investing in your arena early in the game will prove to be worth it in better leagues.

Good luck!

Also, I would not start buying players with 5-30k salaries as previously suggested. 15-30k salaries are too much for a new team to be forking out every week while trying to build a deep team and make a profit. Target players in the 5-10k territory for D5. They will be good players for your division with salaries you can afford to pay.

I wasn't saying worthy salary wise but you could get a great players for that kind of money for a D5

Hang on to Farr, cheng, Breaux, Herrera, Pryor, Marquez and Bernier for roster depth.

Sell Garland, Irving and Oneil.

Train Hamlin and Barbosa.

Find one or two more trainees on the transfer list, preferably 6'9" or taller, 18-19 years old and allstar potential or better.

Fill out the roster by finding some starters on the transfer list with salaries between $6000 and $10000, preferably in their mid to late 20's.

Generally you want to carry between 11-13 players.

Keep your 18 and 19 year old bigs. Train them single position rotating through Inside Defense, Reb, and Inside shot. For now Keep your players with above 3500 salaries while firing the rest unless they can sell for more then 20,000.
Sell your 21 yr old MVP potential player (people will probably overbid on him because of his potential.) Make sure you get a level 4 trainer and then look for a couple good guards with salaries around 8,000. You probably want them to have at least Proficient-Prominent Outside Defense.
Make sure you are spending money on scouting so you can get good draft picks and then use the extra money you have on expanding your arena.
