How does the Season Ticket Holder number fluctuate? Like what makes it go up and down?

I had 1500 season ticket holders before I relegated...I'm down to 1030 now. Before that, it steadily moved up as long as I finished in the top five, but jumped a hundred or so when I promoted each time.

If you do good, it goes up; if you do bad, it goes down...

Mine jumped almost 400 when I promoted from DV to DIV.
