In real basketball, some people survive purely on their athleticism. Athleticism seperates the good players from the great players in a lot of cases, and has a huge affect on the game. Also, if a player has a lot of athleticism, they're more likely to have a higher potential if they work hard. Do you think their should be some kind of Athleticism skill put into the game?

It would be too complicated to implement.

The game engine would have to be switched.

Ive thought about this too, how they could implement it.

In the end, I believe athleticism to be a combination of all existing non-shooting related stats.

eg: Handling + Stamina + Driving + ID + OD + SB + RB etc.

A modern day athlete i believe, is someone like Dwayne Wade. His ability to block shots is uncanny, and his ability to steal the ball, defend larger players, dunk of the rebound etc. Ok so im thinking highlight reel here but still.

If you took a C in this game, who has Level 18 IS, Level 18 RB and 18 ID.... But has atrocious passing./handling etc, it conjurs up images of a big hulking lug who lumbers around the court.
Looking at another C, who has Strong jump shot, and even just Average Handling/Driving etc, you start thinking of a more mobile athletic moving C.

Same with guards. ... a guard with decent rebounding, ID, SB, etc, it conjurs up images of a guard who can really jump and post up etc etc. Athlete.

So whilst i think its a good idea, if you use your imagination a little bit, you can find this athleticism already within the game. And strangely enough, i think you will find that those players who have excellent secondary skills are better players.

That would require changing the GE, and it would make current players have a big disadvantage (having a 30 year old who can't become more athletic) and if you make athleticism by current stats then your are making some players better while making others worse. I don't have a problem with the suggestion, I just think it would be to hard to implement

Actually, physical abilities are to some degree in the current engine already - they are just not displayed as a physical ability, but they can be found by their initial skillset and their development.

So a "huge wingspan" might translate into good shotblocking and OD, great shotblocking on a SF paired with a great JS can be read as vertical lift aswell as good rebounding with a tiny guard, Passing and Handling is not only the Basketball IQ, but aswell the smoothness of the hands, courtside vision and his ability to handle the ball at hight speed.

Silly Driving with a Good OD might be the result of his natural quickness, and a huge body with high Rebounding and ID could be interpreted as Upper Body Strenght.

So "Training ID" might not be just on the court work, but aswell working on his Bulk. Rebounding Ups and Inside Shot can be results from working on his footwork...

Physical Abilities are there, just not "pure" but in their relevance to their ingame impact.

yar this is like what i said! - just gotta use your imagination a little bit. Even things such as 'mental toughness' or 'strategic ability' - Experience + game shape - or something like that.

anyways, totally agree with your comments LA-seelenjaeger

except for
Silly Driving
' - although i think you meant to type silky.

So id like to raise a new suggestion. We need a new skill descriptor, called 'Silly'

This can be below 'atrocious'.

Player X has Average handling and Silly Passing. ha.

;)

Silly was meant to read as "insane" ... so ... someone who hasn´t a catch and fire shot, but can create his own shot at will when faced with an opponent.
